This web site is 3A high school football and we should limit our discussion to it! I get so frustrated with reminding you about this but still there is discussion about the Tour de France, the Conferderate Flag, Major League Baseball, and even about UT football at times. Someone even had a thread about an ex UT woman swimming and diving athlete winning an event for crying out loud! What is wrong with you all! Remember 3A High School football! Get with it!!

Lady Gobblers open season

Wednesday, August 9, 2006 8:17 AM CDT

Cuero High School Lady Gobblers will launch their 2006 season this week with scrimmages Friday and Saturday and their first match Monday.

Now in her fourth year at CHS, head volleyball coach Martina Carrillo reports, “This is our biggest turnout yet. Besides the numbers, I can say this is the most skillful of squads we've had here in Cuero.”

Leading the Lady Gobblers will be the ‘Fantastic Four,' according to Coach Carrillo. They are four seniors who have been on varsity since they were sophomores and are now leading the program.

The ‘Fantastic Four' are Vickie Molnoskey, middle hitter; Sarah Beth Hedrick, outside hitter; Dacey Doehrman, setter/hitter; and Kaci Kuecker, setter/hitter.

“They will play a key factor in our success this year,” said Coach Carrillo.

Returning letterman libero/defensive specialist Desi Poth, junior, is back to help the team also. Joining her will be newcomer Calli Blaschke, senior, who will also be up for the libero/defensive specialist position.

Two talented seniors familiar to Lady Gobbler fans include seniors Caytlyn Holland who will be a middle hitter and Caitlin Carter who will be helping with hitting and blocking.

“These seven girls represent a great group of volleyball players for the season to come,” said Coach Carrillo.

Twenty-six freshmen were counted at the first day of work-outs according to the coaches. Nineteen sophomores and juniors were counted also.

Coach Carrillo said over 25 of this year's volleyball girls attended a university camp this summer and about 90% participated in leagues in the spring.

The girls will travel to Victoria Memorial Friday morning for scrimmages that should last until after lunch. On Saturday there will be scrimmages against Yorktown, Sacred Heart and possibly Nixon-Smiley here starting at 9 a.m.

The opening match will be Monday, Aug. 14 in Cuero against Victoria Memorial. The freshmen start at 5 and the games will be in the new gym at the new Cuero Junior High campus.
