The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Lamar, Texas-San Antonio, and Texas-Arlington ADs reported feasibility studies have been done or will be done in the future but nothing is concrete at this point if football is in their future but some had some more positive news than others.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi AD Brian Teter said, “Right now, we here at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi are in the middle of a feasibility study with a consulting firm. We are expected to have the report and findings at the end of the year (in December or January).”

Texas-Arlington AD Pete Carlon said, “Our President has said that he will take another comprehensive look at the possibility of reinstating a football program, but only after the University has constructed a Special Events Center on campus, which is priority at the present time. The institution hopes to make a formal announcement on the construction timetable for this Special Events Center as soon as the funding program has been finalized, hopefully by the end of the calendar year.”

Texas-San Antonio AD Lynn Hickey said, “We are conducting a football feasibility study that should be completed in the next two weeks. It will then be up to our President to determine if we will be going forward. Hopefully - if things go forward - we could field a team by 2010 or 2011.”

Their original aim was to start studying it once enrollment reached 10,000. Then they jumped the gun and started studying it.

My question is, where would A&M-CC play?

maybe they build a stadium. buc stadium would get used too much for HS and i dont think it has the capacity.

there are t-shirts that say

"Islander Football - Still Undefeated"

my fiancee bought one at the university bookstore.

How in the world do you conduct a "football feasibility" study in Texas??? I think it might go something like this...

UTSA AD: "Hi...We're doing a football feasibility study. Do you think we should have football???"

Student/Parent/Alum/Bum on the street: "Yes...are you a freakin' moron? This is Texas...the greatest football state in the land!"

lol i dont care to have a big stadium of 50,000+. i would be happy with 10,000 and some football going on. i like going to islanders games even when its only 2000 people there. but hopefully that will change with the move to the southland conference.

I had heard that UTSA has been looking into this for a while now.

UTSA has surprisingly pretty good athletics.

10K capacity would be plenty big enuf for a I-AA startup program, at least until they can arrange something else. very few I-AAs even average 10K

My question is, where would A&M-CC play?

exactly

they would have to build a stadium

they would have to increase their budget by 3 or 4 times

they couldn't put a stadium on the island, theirs no more room

they would most likely have to put it out near the yorktown saratoga area, where that huge land is.....or put it closer to the kingsville side....

the school just doesn't have the mentality for football......i've seen football mentality schools, and tamu-cc doesn't have it.....

football is big in texas, yes, but not in the coastal bend...yes i know calallen got to state last year but besides that this area has been pretty low in D-1 athletes.....and we all know you have to start your base within the area before you can expand...if you field a team with common 3a players, they will get rolled over....

PLUS, if you can't be D-1A, what's the point of having a program in the first place

we could never draw 12K at any game...

No way! But Coastal Bend CC is too big not to have a college football team for the Islanders! Besides we could use a good stadium in CC!

It is excellent and Cabanese is not bad but parking is sorry at both places. When I say a good stadium I mean one with big capacity and plenty of parking like the one in Kingsville. Laredo has an excellent stadium with plenty of parking and good facilities. Why not CC?
I remember at Buc Stadium at a playoff game with Burnet that there were several friends from Burnet that had to go move their cars because they were threatened with towing. All this due to inadequate parking facilities. Shameful indeed!

Isnt there room for a football stadium right at the end of Rodd Field Road going south? And yeah, A&M-CC is looking into it. Buc Stadium is a joke. Cabaniss is a joke. They need a whole new stadium. And A&M-Kingsville is around to steal some good solid athletes who want to play for a contender right away. There's alot of upside... but it will take time.

well i know they are building a large apartment complex at ennis joslin and mcardle, but the corner of ennis joslin and SPID is nothing but an old crop field that is never used. i would also be in favor of keeping it in a central location closer to downtown or somewhere off of IH 37. theres plenty of developable land along I 37

actually that would probably be a prime place to put a stadium......past where you turn off of Ennis Joslin and on too SPID

They should probably keep it close to the campus. I think the EJ/SPID intersection would be great...

well it probably would. of course road capacities and access need to be taken under consideration. you would have to adjust the medians to add turn lanes on E.J. the possibilities are there. a stadium there would spur growth along the other undeveloped land on SPID. i guess a central location isnt really important because u can get anywhere in 10 mins or less on the freeways.
