View Full Version : How Much Gas Do You Put In Your Vehicle?

Bullaholic

I was wondering how much gas you put in your vehicles when you buy gas? I have fought this battle for years with my wife. She likes to put $10 or so at time in her van and repeat "as necessary". I fill up each time I stop for gas. I tell her---"Fill up when you buy gas---you're going to drive the same distance, anyway, so why have to stop every 200 miles or so for more gas."
I think she reasons, like most women, and thinks she is "saving money" by doing this---maybe have more "mall" money I guess. :D

It depends. If "I'm" buying, I put $10-$20. If it's on the gas card that lhpd pays the bill, I fill up. :D

I almost always fill up except if I think the price is going down soom. I filled up this morning in Odem for $2.79. however it was inconvient because the pump stopped at $50 and I had to swipe the card again to top the tank off. This after putting $30 in Corpus last night to make it home. Gas in CC is at least $2.85. I fill up 2 or 3 times a week @ 10mpg even with a 34 gal tank.

It happens at some stations. Happens to my mom (who drives a Ford Excursion) all the time. Some stations stop at $70 as well.

I always fill it up...

but I've always had this theory that could save you SOME money.

Say you can drive 400 miles every time on a tank of gas and you have a tank that holds 16 gallons which is close to a Honda Accord...(NOTE: don't consider any other scenarios...just go with this one)

You pay $2.89/gal to fill up your car.

You then drive 100 miles (or 4 gallons) and see a gas station with gas that is now at $2.79. You stop and put 4 gallons of gas in your car for $2.79/gallon.

Now...instead of the "cost per gallon of gas" in your car being $2.89. It has now dropped down to $2.865/gallon.

Now let's say you drive another 200 miles (or 8 gallons) and gas is down to $2.50 (you got lucky finding this price!). You fill up again and now your "cost per gallon of gas" is $2.6825.

You drive your another 100 miles and gas is back to $2.70. You fill up and now your "cost per gallon of gas" is $2.68875.

So in essence...instead of your 400 miles costing you $2.89/gallon. You were able to take advantage of declining gas prices (like that will ever happen) and save some money!
;)

and I'm still not sure that I'm "sold on my theory." I guess a lot of it comes down to this question...

When you fill up your car, is the money that you are paying for that gas paying for your last trip or your next trip?

Odis or Bubba Joe might say---"That boy's bout' half smart". :D

i told one of the coaches the other day that I was getting concerned about an alarming trend on the rise among the players---I told him it seems we were getting a lot more "A" and "B" students on the team----and asked, would this hurt us any? :D

The Circle K in Sinton used to shut off at $50 when using my credit card it now goes to $75. They said it was my credit card and not store policy. Still it is sad when $75 won't fill you up!

Then again.....if every time you "top off" the tank, the price of gas has risen and gone from $2.79 to $2.84 to $2.89 (you get the picture), you're theory is shot. :p

so that is when you don't keep topping it off. You only top it off when you see gas at a lower price than what you filled up at! ;)

Yeah, almost all HEB's here have gas. The Calallen Wal-Mart is probably the only Supercenter in the area that doesn't have gas. Rockport might not either, but I don't really know.
