They have SMU missing bowl eligibility at 5-7

If their margin of error is the same as it was last year, SMU will win 9 games this year. Fort Worth Bowl, here we come! (and we don't play TCU this year so how awesome would it be to face them)

Seriously, I don't expect any less than 6 wins from SMU this year.

Well if they are both in a bowl game, Utah must of been pretty good.

:D :D :D I'd love to see what happens in the third matchup. I wish David Housel would have never canceled their series during the 2004 season.

Louisville not in a bowl game? Are you talking about a BCS game or just any old bowl game?

They're loaded this year. The only player they'll miss from last year will be Elvis Dumervil, but with the strides that the offense will make the team as a whole should be just fine. They have quite possibly the best offensive backfield in the nation and play in a fairly weak conference (outside of WV).

By the way, did the Big East get dropped as a BCS conference when they redid the way the BCS was running? I see two Big Ten teams, two ACCs, and two Big XII's in all the outside BCS bowls, but noone from the Big East.

Either way, both WV and Louisville have the teams and the schedules to play their way into the championship.

The Big East does not have an automatic tie-in with any BCS bowl.

And I just looked at them again, and no, Louisville is not included up there. West Virginia is in some second-rate bowl as well. CFN has no respect for the Big East.

Then they must have got dropped. There were six BCS conferences through last year... the Big XII, Pac 10, Big Ten, SEC, ACC, and Big East. When The U and VT defected, the conference lost most of its luster. I guess the NCAA finally decided to pull the plug right before the best year the Big East has seen since the exodus to the ACC.

Oh well, I still somewhat agree with 303a. If I remember correctly (I'm too lazy to go look it up) Louisville plays Miami again this year. I see Louisville taking that game, and I see the winner of the WV/Louisville game winning the Big East and going to a BCS game as an at-large. They'll both be top-20 teams at the end of the year, the winner of that game will be top-10.

Technically, the Big East is a BCS Conference, it just does not have a current tie-in with a BCS Bowl. If they fail to meet a certain performance standard this year, they could be forced to drop the title of "BCS Conference."

I didn't see the Houston Bowl listed on the site. There was some doubt about the bowl's future, but the NFL Network acquired the rights to the game and it will be played on Dec. 28 at Reliant Stadium.

Uhh, yes it does.

The Big East was never dropped from the BCS games. The Big East champion still gets an auto bid. CFN just screwed up.

Automatic Qualification

1. The top two teams in the final BCS Standings shall play in the National Championship Game.

2. The champions of the ACC, Big East, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-10, and Southeastern conferences will have automatic berths in one of the participating bowls after the 2006 and 2007 regular seasons.

3. The Division I-A conferences have developed standards for annual automatic qualification for conference champions after the 2008 and 2009 regular seasons. (See "Standards for Conference Automatic Qualification, 2009 and 2010 bowl games.") The standards are based on performance during the 2004-2007 college football regular seasons. Such standards, however, will not prohibit the champion of any conference that has contracted with a Bowl to play in any particular game from playing in one of the participating BCS bowls. For example, the Big Ten and Pac-10 champions will, by contract, play in the Rose Bowl every year unless one or both of those teams qualifies for the National Championship Game.

The champions of selected conferences are contractually committed to host selected games, unless those champions qualify for the BCS National Championship Game, as follows

Atlantic Coast Conference-Orange Bowl
Big Ten Conference-Rose Bowl
Big 12 Conference-Fiesta Bowl
Pac-10 Conference-Rose Bowl
Southeastern Conference-Sugar Bowl

4. The champion of Conference USA, the Mid-American Conference, the Mountain West Conference, the Sun Belt Conference, or the Western Athletic Conference shall earn an automatic berth in a BCS bowl game if either:

1. Such team is ranked in the top 12 of the final BCS Standings, or,
2. Such team is ranked in the top 16 of the final BCS Standings and its ranking in the final BCS Standings is higher than that of a champion of a conference that has an annual automatic berth in one of the BCS bowls.

No more than one such team from Conference USA, the Mid-American Conference, the Mountain West Conference, the Sun Belt Conference, and the Western Athletic Conference shall earn an automatic berth in any year under the terms of this Paragraph 3. If two or more teams from such Conferences satisfy the provisions for an automatic berth in any particular year, then the team with the highest finish in the final BCS Standings shall receive the automatic berth, and the remaining team or teams shall be in the pool of teams eligible for selection by the bowls as at-large teams.

5. Notre Dame will have an automatic berth in one of the participating bowls if it is in the top eight of the final BCS Standings.

6. If any of the 10 slots remain open after application of provisions 1 through 5, and an at-large team from a conference with an annual automatic berth for its champion is ranked No. 3 in the final BCS Standings, that team shall become an automatic qualifier.

7. If any of the 10 slots remain open after application of provisions 1 through 6, and an at-large team from a conference with an annual automatic berth for its champion is ranked No. 4 in the final BCS Standings, that team shall become an automatic qualifier.

8. If any slots remain unfilled after the placement of all teams qualifying for an automatic berth, then the bowls shall choose their participants from the "pool of eligible teams"

If you're a BCS Conference, that means that you have the automatic tie in no matter what. If the NCAA drops you from that tie-in, then you're no longer a "BCS Conference." The term BCS Conference refers directly to that tie in.

EDIT: Nevermind, just read the rest of the thread.

CFN has corrected their oversite re the Big East ....... Louisville in the Sugar Bowl, Zero U out and "demoted" to the Cotton Bowl

Cotton Bowl
Dallas, TX
Cotton Bowl
January 1, 2007, Fox
Big 12 No. 2 vs. SEC
Bowl Projection: Oklahoma vs. Arkansas
Nebraska could be an attractive option, but Oklahoma would sell out the Cotton Bowl. Arkansas would be a nod back to the old Southwest Conference days, but Alabama could easily be here.

BCS GAMES

Rose Bowl
Pasadena, CA
Rose Bowl
January 1, 2007, ABC
BCS vs. BCS (Big 10 vs. Pac 10 if available)
Bowl Projection: Iowa vs. Florida State
Because of the way the schedule breaks, the prediction here is an Iowa Big Ten title. With USC projected to play for the national title, the Rose Bowl loses its Pac 10 representative and would get its choice of whatever at large team it wants. It'll want Bobby Bowden.

Fiesta Bowl
Glendale, AZ
Glendale Stadium
January 1, 2007, Fox
BCS vs. BCS (Big 12 Champion to play here if available)
Bowl Projection: Texas vs. Utah
Don't be shocked if Nebraska slides its way in here. Assuming Ohio State and the Fiesta would want a mini-break from each other, a second trip to the Fiesta in three years for Utah wouldn't be bad to sell the place out. (Remember the new BCS rules. All a Conference USA, Mountain West, MAC, Sun Belt or WAC team has to do is be in the top 12 teams in the final standings or be in the top 16 and be ranked higher than the champion of a BCS conference.)

Orange Bowl
Miami, FL
Dolphins Stadium
January 2, 2007, Fox
BCS vs. BCS (ACC Champion to play here if available)
Bowl Projection: Miami vs. Ohio State
This could easily be Florida State here for Miami. Ohio State is a better fit for the Orange than the Sugar if it doesn't end up in Glendale on January 8th.

Sugar Bowl
New Orleans, LA
Louisiana Superdome
January 3, 2007, Fox
BCS vs. BCS (SEC Champion to play here if available)
Bowl Projection: LSU vs. Louisville
With the projected SEC Champion playing for the national title, LSU playing in New Orleans would make for a good story. The Louisville-West Virginia winner will be here.

BCS Championship Game
Glendale, AZ
Glendale Stadium
January 8, 2007, Fox
BCS No. 1 vs. BCS No. 2
Bowl Projection: USC vs. Auburn
USC, who has to beat Nebraska, Cal and Notre Dame to get the national respect to get to Glendale, would just barely beat out Texas, the ACC Champion, and Louisville to take one spot. If things work out as projected, the Trojans will have played eight bowl bound teams. A blowout over Notre Dame, if it happens, would seal the invite.
Auburn is due. Like LSU, Texas and Ohio State over the past few years, Auburn has been knocking on the door long enough to finally get the right breaks to get a shot at the title. With many still feeling the Tigers got screwed over a few years ago, the voters would give the Tigers the nod if everything else is equal. The schedule works out well getting LSU, Florida and Georgia at home, but there can't be a loss to Alabama in the regular season finale.
