P.I. Tarpons, I think. Son was QB. They lost to Cameron Yoe in the early 80's or late 70's.

It was in 1981 PI lost to Cameron Yoe 25 14 in the semifinal game, & Cameron Yoe went on and won State over Childress 35 –7
1981 (3A)

and the coach was Tommy Roberts and his son’s name was Terry
1978-1981 Tommy Roberts 46-4-1:
Oh yea Tarpons fans remember that game well;

…“When the '81 team played Cameron Yoe in the Semifinals, they also had this huge big running back. I don't know what his size was but this guy would carry three to four Tarpons with him when running the ball. I remember there was always two Tarpons, at the line, that would go for the legs and then there would be two to three more Tarpons hitting him to knock him down and the back would get a first down every time he touched the ball. Ask any Tarpon player that played defense that game and they will tell you that no matter how hard they hit this guy, he would not go down. And then on Offense, Terry Roberts went up the middle and got hit so hard that he bounced back from the line of scrimmage. He later said that it was like running into a brick wall, literally.”

BTW– PI lost to the eventual state champs the following years;
1981 - Cameron Yoe
PI 33, Hebbronville 15 (bi-district)
PI 36, Refugio 0 (regional’s)
PI 10, Hondo 0 (state quarterfinals)
Cameron Yoe 25, PI 14 (state semifinals)
1984 - Medina Valley (3A)
PI 41, Freer 7 (bi-district)
PI 28, Refugio 26 (area)
Medina Valley 24, PI 0 (regional’s)
1994 – Sealy(3A)
PI 28, Orange Grove 12 (bi-district)
PI 28, Carrizo Springs 0 (area)
PI 20, Cuero 20 (regional semifinals; PI advanced on penetrations, 5-3)
PI 24, Bandera 11
Sealy 34, PI 13 (state semifinals)
1996 – Sealy(3A)
PI 34, Orange Grove 12 (bi-district)
PI 40, Sinton 20 (area)

2002 – Bandera
PI 43, Bishop 14 (bi-district)
PI 20, Aransas Pass 19 (area)

I thought Cameron beat Gilmer to win state in 1981

My dad took me to that game and answered 2 important questions I had:
1) Why does PI's QB take so long to hand off the ball? (He was riding the RB and reading veer)
2) What's a Yoeman?

Looking back, that game was a rite of passage for me.

I didn't know about this game, 'till like 10 years later, when my hubby told me about that season and that game. I think that I heard it was played in Victoria?

So do you know the name of that running back?

Hmm, really? Ok what was the score? .. I guess it doesn't really matter, the point is Cameron won state in '81.

Sorry-didn't mean to change the subject of the post: this just caught my eye and I wanted to make sure that I didn't have my facts wrong:

It was in 1981 PI lost to Cameron Yoe 25 14 in the semifinal game, & Cameron Yoe went on and won State over Childress 35 –7
