The projected path has kind of caught my attention, but it does not look like we will know much until the weekend or early next week.

No this could be a problem in about a week, i hope not here, we're just now cleaned up from Rita.

Some models have it as a Cat 3 in the Gulf of Mexico next week. Bring it on!!! Rita threw a big punch and didn't knock us out. I think I will lash myself to the top of Dan Ray Hooks Stadium and watch all the crap blow by. Feel the wind on my face and laugh at Chrissie boy. Come on bad boy.

And then I had my second cup of coffee and decided to make reservations in Henderson and RUN AWAY!!!!!!!!!!

No kidding!

Have you seen that it's already having an effect on the price of oil.

And who is it that runs the prices up? Oil companies???? Nope...speculators. The "man" is gonna stick it to us again. Stupid hurricanes.

the market runs the price up once the supply is decreased. If production has to be stopped in the Gulf...that is what causes the price increase. It's not the man sticking it to you. It's mother nature sticking it to you.

Well you made the Phil C argument...so I had to give the logical response! ;)

I live in the very middle of the petrochemical industry here in SETx. Oil is simply a commodity and there are people who make big bucks by speculating in commodities. Why we all don't buy stock in "big oil" is beyond me.

Not enough people are willing to sell their shares to meet the demand of buyers...thus further driving up the stock price!

I could have predicted this storm a month ago when my middle son made plans to fly to Cuero to play in a golf tournament on the 12th and 13th .. I never fails, when we make plans to fly to FLA to visit him or he plans to come to Cuero in the summer - there is a darn tropical storm or hurricane....... GGRR

dollars and disasters go hand in hand don't they?

There are still hundreds of "blue roofs" here and thousands of fallen trees. Neighborhoods still look like warzones. Chris would definitely add injury to injury. No silly insults need apply.

GULF COAST Downlowers!!!!! Are you prepared? Rita proved how unprepared most of this region was last year.

As badly as we need rain here in Wise County (it hasnt rained since the middle of June here), I don't think I want to see a major hurricane hit the Texas coast.

And that 50% range is where I'm at.

You know, I do want to start school on time this year. Bret messed us up when I was in 5th grade, and I was mad. But not nearly as mad as I will be if it ruins my senior year.

Man I hope that forecast map is wrong. Port Isabel / South Padre Island I don't think has had a direct hit from a Hurricane (eye passing over) since Allen in 1980. There have been a couple of near misses (Gilbert 1988) but not a direct hit in a long time.

May have to give my family down there a call and give them a heads up.

WE ARE DOOMED!!! All classes across the Texas gulf coast are hereby canceled until further notice. All employers must allow their employees to leave work immediately to prepare for evacuation or for massive hurricane parties. Failure to follow this order will result in absolutely nothing happening to you.

Just be prepared. The old Boy Scout motto.

I'm going to evacuate my new car if the order is given. It's nothing sporty, but I love it anyway. Plus, it has XM radio :D

At least I won't have to worry too much about trees hitting my house this hurricane season. RITA blew them all down. Took two big pines that had my hammock between them. Bummer. Now I need a hammock rack and it just isn't the same.

Hurricanes blow.

They were planted. 14 years ago. They aren't HUGE like the ones in East Texas, but they are good sized.

Rockport has a lot of pine trees so it's not unprecedented down here.

my neighbor lost 24 off his residential sized lot. One went through his roof and demolished his kitchen and family room. I lost 6 pines, a redbud a sweetgum and an oak. Two hit the house doing only minor damage. I rode a chainsaw for weeks and that is not in my job description as a lawyer. whatever!!

Thanks. We are all a bit gunshy here in the Golden Triangle. Sabine Pass hardly exists anymore. People have moved out in droves and there is still an incredible amount of crap everywhere.
