View Full Version : Different Things We Do With Food.....

Several previous threads have touched on this question a little before, what what kind of "food idiosyncrasies" do you or someone you know have? Yesterday, some folks we saying that hey didn't like their food to "touch" on their plates, and they liked to eat one thing at a time before eating another. Here are some I have experienced or heard about. How about "odd" foods and odd combonations or combos you just "like"?

1. Putting peanuts in a Dr. Pepper or Coke.
2. Filling one square at a time with syrup on a waffle.
3. Mayo on a hot dog.(My sweet wife).
4. Putting salt on bacon.
5. Ketchup on eggs or hashed browns
6. Jalapeno jelly
7. Cornbread in milk sprinkled with salt and pepper
8. Old timers in cafes "saucering" their coffee to cool it.
9. "Sucking" the heads of boiled crawfish after you break them in two.
10. Pig's feet and cracklins
11. Hogshead cheese
12. Chicken necks, backs, and feet
13. I would eat Tabasco on ice cream.
14. I would eat Ranch Dressing on anything, too.
15. Hot apple pie with vanilla ice cream and a slice of cheddar cheese.
16. Escargot
17. Raw oysters
18. Calf brains and eggs
19. Calf fries

I would eat ranch dressing on almost everything too, except Pizza. However, those pizza rolls from DoubleDave's taste pretty good with Ranch.

A few others of mine...

1) Saltine crackers with Taco Sauce
2) Batch 44 on EVERY Quizno's Sub
3) ketchup on Eggs, Hashed Browns, and Tater Tots
4) Cheese Fries...especially the one's from Snuffers (and if you've ever been to Highland Park, you would know why)...with Ranch...
5) Jalapeno Jelly
6) Frog Legs
7) Lettuce and Tomato are exclusively reserved for salads
8) Potatoes topped in Greek salad dressing
9) Potatoes COOKED in Greek salad dressing
10) French Fries dipped in Taco Sauce
11) French Fries dipped in Cocktail Sauce
12) Hush Puppies dipped in Cocktail Sauce

Sour cream is only normal on chicken fajita tacos around here.

LOL...no, I asked for a taquito, they said "what's that." I explained it to them, they said "Oh, you mean a breakfast taco." In Virginia, they called them "breakfast-food burritos"

Also, burritos don't come with chili sauce on them down here...that happens some places up there.

Food eccentricy #392807148932719:

At Henry's in San Angelo, dip your chip first in the hot sauce and then in the white sauce, before taking a bite. Same goes for Little Mexico in San Angelo.

Rats:
Whole (with the stems on) fresh jalapenos

Cut from the tip to the dealy that has the stem and "gut" (best to wear gloves for this process.....it can be quite "painful" for a guy answering Mother Nature   )

Stuff with cream cheese
Wrap with 1/2 slice bacon
Stick a toothpick in to hold the bacon and throw on the grill

1.Smoked oysters(the absolute best booger looking things out there)
2. A mix of salsa and ranch is the best dipping sauce for me.
3. For corndogs we mix mayo and mustard and the kids love it but it's a little rich for me.
4. I love homemade tuna used as a dip with potato chips.
5. Potato chips like Lays on a tuna sandwich and the occasional hamburger.
6. HEB's Rasberry-Chipotle ranch dip on anything edible(thanks sinton66 for turning me on to this wonderful stuff:cool: ).

I have a buddy that eats applesauce on just about everything. I found out about this on a late night trip to Mickey D's. We picked up a few McRibs to go and took them back to his apt (he lives in Jersey Village- just outside of Houston). Next thing I knew, he broke open this huge jar of Musselman's apple sauce, poured some on a plate and started dipping his McRib in it.

He said that when he was a kid, he used to do it to keep hot food from burning the roof of his mouth. He just developed a taste for it and never stopped. That's some crazy stuff.

Speaking of "ketchup"....

Many years ago when # 55 was just learning to read more than "basics", we were eating at some fast food place and had some packets of ketchup on the table. We asked if he wanted some for his fries. He looked at the package for a minute and said "no, I don't like "fancy" ketchup....only the regular kind". :D
