It just occured to me...

that Gainesville's loss to Wimberley in the 2005 D1 state title game was the first time in 5 years that Region 1 didn't win the D1 state title.

2000 - Gatesville over Abilene Wylie
2001 - Everman over Sinton
2002 - Everman over Burnet
2003 - Gainesville over Burnet
2004 - Abilene Wylie over Cuero
2005 - Wimberley over Gainesville

Kind of odd that only 3 teams have represented Region 1 in the past 6 years in the state championship game. :thinking:

Not sure why that came to me at 2:10 AM...but it did! ;)

hmm...you're right. I know they were in 2000 so they would have been in 2001 also. They were region 1 in 2002 and 2003 though cuz Wylie played them in the 2nd round both times.

Oh well...I need to stop posting after 2AM I guess! :rolleyes:

I wasn't counting that game...I was going back to the last time (and I made an error) that Region 1 hadn't won it...which I thought was 2000 when Wylie lost to Gatesville. Seeing as how I was at Wylie in 2000...I think I woud know that Gatesville wasn't in Region 1.
