My daughter recently went with our church youth group on a mission trip to New Orleans where they worked in several capacities with both adults and kids who have lost most everything. While doing some repair work at a church, she met a woman who told them about her experience.

She and her husband had moved into a new home after their kids were grown. It was not big or fancy, but they liked it very much and it had an in-ground pool. Her husband died a few years ago and she occupied the home alone when the hurricane struck. After the initial devastation of Katrina of course, there followed the added problems of the standing water and the looters.

Although she was not wealthy, she had accumulated quite a bit of jewelry and assorted valuables over the years. When the woman finally returned home , she found all her valuables had been taken. In addition, she was told that she would have to hire a specialty company to pump the polluted water out of her pool, and that her insurance would not cover that expense.

Eventually, once her turn came, the pump truck arrived to clear her pool. When they reached the bottom, guess what they found? A man! Not only that, but he was still gripping a bag that contained the woman's stolen valuables. Evidently, he left the house by the back yard and, not being able to see the pool because of the standing water, fell into it and drowned.

Amazing, isn't it?
