I think this is necessary due to recent threads.

The tenacity and perserverance our fore-fathers used to turn a land of wilderness into the greatest nation on the planet. I'm proud of this country where people aren't judged based on sex, race, religious affiliation or sexual preference. I'm proud that we have a government that will not govern based on the beliefs of the overzealous. I'm proud that we are respected at the global level, and that we do not head into conflicts unless absolutely necessary.

I'm proud to be an American. :D

So many reasons which includes that we are one of the most compassonate and helping countries ever and yet sometimes at the same time one of the most unappreciated countries ever yet we continue to help others.

I am proud to be part of a country that tries to do the right thing. Sometimes it turns out badly and sometimes it is not appreciated but I honestly believe that the majorityof our history (up until right now) is based on trying to do the right thing.

I am proud to be an American because it is the best place in the history of the world to live using almost any and all criteria.

I am proud to be an American because those that don't appreciate what we have are still tolerated and they are allowed to voice their opinion.

I am proud to be an American because I believe that we will continue to have a free market society and not the driven into the socialistic mediocity of other countries.

I am proud to be an American because GW Bush (though not a Texan) is a man of honor and integrity.

If you don't know why you're proud to be an American........

Talk to a woman living in Afganistan under the Taliban.....
Talk to a Kurd in Iraq.....
Talk to anyone in a 3rd world country about what they ate today or if there is any sickness in their family or if they feared for their lives...
Talk to any of the family members with a name on the Vietnam Memorial or who have lost loved ones serving our country.....
Talk to a VFW member or any combat veteran.....
Talk to any victim of any international disaster.....
Talk to anyone practicing their chosen faith or protesting our government....
Read our Constitution, Declaration of Independence, or Bill of Rights....
Watch a bald eagle fly in the Alaskan wilderness......
Watch re-runs of the 1969 "Eagle" touch down on the moon...
Listen to "Semper Fi" or the "Washington Post March" played as a military unit passes in review......

Then, you will know...........

Agreed. The funny thing is, my original reply had no intention of being sarcastic. It wasn't until I went over the text and thought of the current state of affairs that I noticed the irony. Regardless of irony, the examples you've listed are excellent reaosns to be proud to be an American.
