What was the last South Texas (Coastal Bend-RGV) team to have a perfect season? (Undefeated, untied)

Without doing any research I'd have to say Refugio when they won 3A in 1982.

Not Refugio. They lost 1 during the '82 season

That'dbe my guess. Before that, maybe Donna or CC Ray when they won it all in the 60's, or one of Refugio's other title teams.

Not Donna or Ray

True...in the 60's Ray and Miller each won 4A and Refugio has won 3-4 titles in 2A/3A.

Miller?

Rio Hondo?

I can't think of any other title teams off the top of my head.

Unless you're counting Cuero as a Coastal Bend team which is a MAJOR stretch.

I know Ingleside had a few undefeated seasons back in the 40's and 50's when you could only advance to Regionals.

Calallen got to the "regionals" in 1955 or so but lost to Dilley.

Not the Tarpons, they sucked until the mid 1970's

Didn't Marine Military Academy win a private school title one year?

Yes, AD had just dropped down from Class A, where they had a 9-2 season in 1969, losing 14-7 in bi-district to eventual State Finalist Poth. The UIL did not begin awarding State Championships in Class B until 1972.

1970 Agua Dulce Schedule/Results
AD 22 Premont (2A) 13
AD 6 Ingleside(2A) 0
AD 7 Odem 6 (Odem was a dist. champ in class A)
AD 41 Orange Grove 9
AD 21 Three Rivers 15 (TR was ranked # 4 in class A)
AD 48 Skidmore-Tynan 6
AD 16 Banquete 0
*AD 80 Ben Bolt 12
*AD 72 Mirando City 14
*AD 35 Bruni 0
Bi-District---AD 46 Skidmore-Tynan 6
Regional---AD 22 D'Hanis 21

Going into the Regional Championship, Agua Dulce was ranked #1 in Class B by the Harris Poll. D'Hanis was ranked #2. On a very cold night in Hondo, D'Hanis took a 21-7 lead into the 4th Quarter. The Longhorns responded, scoring twice in the final frame. The last TD coming with less than 1 minute to go to cut the lead to 21-20. Instead of going for a tie, Coach Bill Rhyne elected to go for 2 and the pass was complete, capping AD's perfect season.
Agua Dulce & D'Hanis met for the Regional title one year later, this time at Memorial Stadium in Alice. The re-match was sour for the Cowboys, as Agua Dulce stormed to a 35-0 win and a 2nd consecutive Regional Championship.:D

Coach Bill Rhyne

Great coach! I was able to have a few cold ones with him after a Carroll/Kingsville game a number of years ago. He and another old coach who was with us were telling these great stories from years back. It was awesome...

BTW he's a Calallen grad, I believe.;)

Cuero is considered Coastal Bend/Victoria Area by the paper that covers them, The Victoria Advocate... Cuero is also considered San Antonio area by some... Cuero is also considered Houston area by txprepxtra for coverage reasons...

The teams around the area are just Texas Area teams I guess ha...

I believe you are correct. Coach Rhyne had some great teams during his time at AD. What got me thinking about this was remembering back when I was just a little Bull Butter and all the schools that Dulce used to play and how they've grown. AD played Calallen as late as 1966, if my memory serves correct.

One of the first games I ever remember going to, when I was about 5 or 6 was Agua Dulce wiping out Sharyland 54-24 in 1969. Sharyland is 5A now and has about 2,000 students:eek:

I know we used to play Bishop, Taft, Aransas Pass, Premont, and Mathis in the early 70's. I'm not sure if they were district games though. I'll have to look it up.

The Polish talent pool isn't as big as it used to be, but we still field a good team every year. :D
