I keep referring back to this, but my senior year in HS ('97-'98) the Race Trac station in Calallen had gas for $0.59 a gallon. Back then, you couldn't find it for more than $.75, so that 1986 GMC pickup I drove there and back everyday (was dating a girl from Calallen) and the 8 mpg that it gave me wasn't so bad.

Nowadays, my pickup gets around 16 or 17 mpg and I'm suffering.

I can remember back in 1971-1972 when the Diamond Shamrocks in San Antonio would start gas wars by selling at 19 cents a gallon, and you got a free glass with every fill-up.

I remember taking a gallon gas can and a quarter to the store. Filling up the can and getting an ice cream bar and a 3 pieces of rock candy in Wichita Falls. The gas was 19 cents a gallon.
