Send some to SA. We've had 2 tenths of an inch in the last few weeks and I'm tired of seeing my grass die even if I water it twice a week. I'm even more tired of my $50-$70 monthly water bill.

Speaking of Channel 6, am I the only one who recognizes the strong resemblance between Dale Nelson and Brick Tamland?

Haha, no! But they are the only local channel that has the automatically updating radars in picture format, as far as I know.

It sure has been slow moving onshore...that could mean trouble if it continues to move that slowly with the ground already so saturated...

this isn't good...this is from the National Weather Service tropical discussion:

A 1009 MB SURFACE LOW IS CENTERED ALONG THE COAST OF MEXICO
BETWEEN TAMPICO AND BROWNSVILLE TEXAS DRIFTING NORTHWARD.
SURFACE LOW IS BENEATH A BROAD UPPER RIDGE AIDING IN THE
GENERATION OF SCATTERED MODERATE/STRONG CONVECTION IN THE NW
GULF WITHIN 120 NM OF LINE FROM 27N92W TO THE SURFACE LOW NEAR
24N98W. SCATTERED SHOWERS/ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS COVER THE
REMAINDER OF THE AREA W OF 90W. UPPER-LEVEL WINDS ARE EXPECTED
TO BECOME A LITTLE MORE FAVORABLE IF THE SURFACE LOW REMAINS
OFFSHORE OR ALONG THE COAST IN WHICH CASE A TROPICAL DEPRESSION
COULD DEVELOP. EVEN IF THE SYSTEM DOES NOT DEVELOP IT WILL STILL
PRODUCE LOCALLY HEAVY RAINS TO NE MEXICO AND S TEXAS.

We are seeing a strengthening storm right now because the upper level winds have become favorable and it has been very slow moving! Stay tuned, this could get interesting fast!

Unfortunately, I think that's where they went wrong in their prediction. This storm is moving slow enough that it could potentially develop into something more fierce. I'm no meteorologist, but I've been fascinated with the tropics my whole life and have studied them. The scenario we are currently in is what I call "potential storm."

That being said, it seems like the other parts of Texas need rain. Down here we don't even need it. So could it just skip over us or something? :)

But is it really over land? I've been looking at a lot of satellite pictures and I can't make the decision myself. The center of circulation right now seems to be right AT the mouth of the Rio Grande.

Last year, during Hurricane Emily's brush with South Texas, Cantore was doing his live reports from the Sheraton on SPI. Someone I knew that worked there said Cantore was "really enjoying himself" in the bar and then would go outside and stand under the rain gutter to do his live remote:D

Tropical Weather Outlook

Statement as of 5:30 PM EDT on July 25, 2006

For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico...
A surface low pressure area centered over southern Texas between
Edinburg and Harlingen is moving northward at 5 to 10 mph. This
system is generating a large area of showers...thunderstorms and
strong gusty winds in squalls over portions of the western Gulf of
Mexico and the adjacent coastal areas. Upper-level winds have
become somewhat more favorable for a tropical depression to
develop...but only if the system center moves or reforms offshore
over the Gulf of Mexico. Regardless of whether a tropical cyclone
forms...this system is likely to bring locally heavy rainfall to
portions of southern Texas...the Texas coastal Bend region...and
southern Louisiana during the next couple of days.
