WSOP Final Event - Mikey The Chimpanzee Is Ready - 07-09-06

July 9 - The World Series of Poker Main Event has seen some weird and wonderful characters take part, many of them providing us with a good laugh. This year is about to get completely whacky. According to a VERY reliable birdie that whispered in our ear, a trained chimpanzee will hit the tables and no doubt cause a stir!

Imagine you are a poker pro, and you sit down at your allocated table at the start of the event, only to find a chimpanzee staring back at you from across the table! This redefines the concept of a "poker face"! Now imagine you get knocked out by said chimpanzee. You will never be able to show your face in a poker room again!.

At this year's Main Event, online poker room Pokershare.com will apparently enter a chimpanzee called "Mikey". Pokershare will no doubt causes a stir with this stunt! According to our source, the chimp was found after an extensive search, and has received intensive poker training for the last two months.

As is often the case, the Insider is first with the news, and we will keep you up to date as we uncover more on this story.

Pokershare.com, the first poker site in the world to offer its players the opportunity to share in its success by players earning shares in a trust. If Pokershare.com floats on the stock exchange or is bought by another company, players will receive cash based on the number of Share Points they have.

i play casually - it cracks me up when we get a guy who thinks he's a great player and its always the girl who is playing for the first time that cleans up .......

sure you play the odds, but it all comes down do what card turns up next - and thats 100% luck (or chance)

Yes luck plays a factor in the short run...it's a very significant factor. However, in the long run, lucky is a very small part of the game and skill (both math and psychological) will be the dominant factor.

I've had times where I have played for weeks (up to about 10 weeks) at a time without having a winning session or cashing in a tournament. However, (at the level that I play at) in the long run (4+ years) it has been profitable for me because having a skill advantage over your opponents will payoff as the luck factor will balance itself out amongst all the players.

Playing winning poker isn't about luck...it's about making correct decisions. By making as many correct decisions as possible, you maximize your opportunities to win as well as minimize the variance that is created by luck.

All that being said...I haven't played in a few months because my recent move to Dallas caused some changes in my financial situation so it wouldn't be wise of me to play poker without a sufficient bankroll to cover any possible negative variance that could occur when I start playing here.

and that's also the reason why many casinos don't offer great comps for playing poker. They can't make too much on it ($3-5/hand max at low and middle levels) and, until recently, many of the biggest casinos didn't even have poker rooms. In the past 18 months or so, rooms have FINALLY opened at MGM Grand, Caesars, and Venetian to stellar reviews. Casinos have finally caught onto the poker craze and realized that having poker will draw some players into other parts of the casino. For those that enjoy playing poker casually and are making a trip to Vegas, I highly recommend playing at MGM Grand for their "poker room rate." Last I checked, if you play either 6 or 8 hours/day you get $40 off of your room down to $either 69 or 79/night. Though there are other rooms that I prefer to play in, I am big fan of this room because of 1) the soft games (young, drunk, and cocky, college kids) and 2) the awesome room (though it's an open facility when you walk in the main entrance), tables, and management.
