Wasn't there a Spaniard between LeMond and Armstrong? I may be wrong, but I could've sworn there was someone else in there. I always thought LeMond was more 1980's... I can still remember him in my youth.

The last time was 1985 when Bernard Hinault won it so it has been a long drought for the French in this race.

Its been so long since a Frenchie has won it that they now resort to pointing out who the first Frenchman is to finish. :D

The French may have thought the American domination of the Tour was over but they are now going to have to wait at least another year as American Floyd Landis did what he had to do today to win the Tour. Let's hope his hip replacement surgury goes well and he can compete againt next year. An American has won the Tour for 8 straight years and that is a record.
Floyd's time trial wasn't the best but it was good enough to get him the Yellow Jersey. By tradition tomorrow the riders all ride together into Paris and I am sure this tradition will continue.
This was a great and unpredictable race but two mistakes were made by the field. One was to allow Periero to win by almost 30 minutes and get back in contention. The peloton could easily have cut the time in half with just a little more effort. The second mistake was after Floyd had collapsed in Stage 16 to allow him to win the next day with his great escape even though the riders didn't think he would keep the pace. Well he did and now he has won the Yellow Jersey and the Race.

Well done Floyd!

I'm sure they'll say Floyd was juicing.
