The excitement is in the air as Day 1 comes to a close.

- Phil Mickelson put together a round of 4 birdies, 3 bogies, and an eagle to card a -3 69.
- Tiger Woods, started slow at +1 through 4 holes but then played the final 14 holes at -6 including an eagle 3 on the 18th hole to finish at -5 67...one stroke behind leader Graeme McDowell of South Africa at -6.
- Also of note, David Duval is at -2 after the first day.

Currently, there are 65 players under par with about 25 still out on the course completing their rounds. These hard conditions might remind those watching of playing golf in West Texas in the summer. It's short...flat...and hard ground @ Royal Liverpool right now.

I remember my freshman year of college I would still be up at 1 or 2 AM and I would listen to the British announces on the BBC website when they were playing the Ryder Cup...ahh I slept good those nights!

I love the British Open because it reminds our members that even the pga tour courses get dry...
