The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's basketball team received recognition for its solid work in the classroom finishing the 2005-06 season ranked 17th in Women's Basketball Coaches' Association (WBCA) Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll with a combined 3.33 grade-point average during the past school year.

The Islanders climbed into the polls with an outstanding 3.55 GPA in the spring semester in which five players (Terra Andrews, Jill Duffey, Nicole Duncan, Jenesis Shaw and Lindsey Van Dorn) recorded perfect 4.0 GPAs and no player recorded below a 2.93 GPA. Last fall, the team had a 3.18 cumulative average with Andrews and Van Dorn finishing with 4.0s. A&M-Corpus Christi was the lone member of the Southland Conference listed.

"To be ranked so high is a great honor for our players because of the hard work they put forth," said Islander head coach Robert Robinson, who oversaw academics under former head coach Jodi Kest. "Success in the classroom like the team had this past season is the definition of being a student athlete. Mike Pirrman (former academic advisor) did a great job of helping the players with their academics."

South Dakota State led all NCAA schools with a 3.73 GPA.
