Local singer and songwriter Sam Neely died Wednesday afternoon at his home in the 15600 block of Cuttysark Street, police said.

About 5:30 p.m. police responded to a report of an unconscious man who had been mowing his lawn. A cause of death was not immediately available late Wednesday.

Neely, 58, wrote several songs during his lengthy career including "Rosalie," "You Can Have Her," and "Loving You Just Crossed My Mind," his first Top 20 hit. He also was known for a version of the song "I Fought The Law, " a Top 40 hit. Neely also is honored with a star on the South Texas Music Walk of Fame at Water Street Market.

He also wrote title songs for two movies, 1973's "Bonnie's Kids," which featured the song "Blue Time," and the 1979 film "Tilt," starring Brooke Shields, which included the song "Long Road to Texas." The movie was filmed in Corpus Christi.

Neely also performed the final song of the last episode for television's long-running series "M*A*S*H," titled, "The Party's Over (Farewell To M*A*S*H)."
