What is the best team your school has beaten?

The first school that came to my mind for Jasper was the 1986 WOS team.

Sinton beat about 14 other teams in 2001...

Brenham in 2005.
Austin Westlake in 1993.

Ohmaha Paul Pewitt, 1993 State Finals.
They had two stud running backs, one had rushed for over 2500 yards, and the other 2000 yards that year.

Ingleside Mustangs:

Three Rivers, 21-6... 1964 Regionals, ranked 4th in the state
Hull-Daisetta, 20-8...1964 Quarterfinals, top-ranked team in Texas
Port Isabel, 1995 Area Round, ranked 7th in the state
George West- 1996 non-district, ranked 12th in the state

I know we also beat Three Rivers, Rio Hondo, Blanco, and New London in the '62 playoffs, I just can't remember what they were ranked at the time. I want to say that New London was ranked third, but I can't remember for the life of me. I'm going to have to get my zip drive running to get that info.

Hell I don't know since we're usually on the "best team" side of things (not braggin', it just happens that way)...

I wasn't alive, but Cuero defeated #1 Ennis in the State Semi's (yes, Semi's) in 1970... lost to Brownwood in the final 14-zip...

Sweetwater beat Tomball in 1985...I think Tomball's RB was named Bubba Greely...was supposedly a pretty good back..i dont know I wasnt at the game.

Sweetwater also knocked off a highly rated Pampa Harvesters team in the early 90's. I think Zach Thomas was on that team.

Sweetwater also upset Brownwood during Colby Freeman's senior season.

Snyder's victory over Iowa Park in 2004. After that it was easly until we ran into Gilmer, who would have destroyed, not just beat, any team in West Texas

In 2000, we beat LaMarque, Friendswood, Calallen and Bay City en route to a 15-1 record. Bay City won the 4A Div I title that year with only one loss (to us). Back in the 80s, we also beat a team (I think it was one of the Aldine teams) that was nationally ranked.

fun question. 2 come to mind. in 1981 in the quarterfinals we beat Wylie 16-14. played the whole second half between the 20 and our goaline. they just could not get it in. hammered Kermit in semi's and lost to Cameron Yoe in finals. certainly not to take anything away from eventual champ, but Wylie was the best team we played all year.

game 2 would be Jasper in 04' champ game. two very evenly matched teams with great athletes. either team could have won that game.

It may seem odd, but when Navasota was good, we beat our arch rival Brenham 50-23 back in the '03 season (it was a nice victory and they've been to scared to play us ever since!!!) and when we beat Bellville back in the '04 season!!!! That game came down to the wire and if anyone on here was there you have to admit that was a good game on both sides!!!! But that's about all I can think of!

05 Brenham. That team was LOADED.

hmmm... several come to mind.

1987 #1 5A team in Texas (#3 Nationally in USA Today) Aldine MacArthur
2000 4A Div. 1 State Champ Bay City - ranked #1 before the loss
1998 3A Div. 2 State Champ Newton
1999 4A Div. 2 State Finalist Port Neches-Groves
2003 4A Div. 2 State Finalist Bay City

I can't say that these are the "best" teams we've beaten, but the wins are up there in the "bittersweet" category.

2002 win over Bandera (went on to win the DII state title)
2005 win over Hutto (went on to play in the DII title game)

At the time, the win over Manor (ranked # 1 that week) in 2004 seemed like "the best team". But, either they were highly overrated or that game took the wind out of their sails, since their season after didn't fair too well.

Caldwell has won against a good team???

well i take that back, the year after i graduated, we played Navasota (who at the time was ranked 5th in the state) and beat them to advance into the 2nd round of play offs... does that count???

Actually in 85, the better game was the week before against Austin Westlake, in the semi-finals. It ended in a 21-21 tie, with us advanceing on penetrations inside the 20, by 7 to 4 I think. It was probably the best coached game I have ever seen.

For Wylie I can think of a few...

2000 - Regional Semifinals vs Aledo (#1 in the state)
2000 - State Semifinals vs Everman
2003 - Regional Semifinals vs Everman
2004 - State Quarterfinals vs Decatur (had lost to them 42-6 earler in the year)
2004 - State Finals vs Cuero

To CHS_CG, yes that does count. That was my senior year at Navasota and that game was awesome til one of our better players screwed up and Caldwell took it all the way. So in my books, it does count!!

For Everman at least recently it would be

2001 Waxahachie Indians: Hachie was 8-3 that year..all three losses to state champs by less than a TD....lost to Everman 13-7, Ennis 21-16 and Denton Ryan 27-24 in OT

2002 Burnet Bulldogs: state champ game 2002...beat them 35-14 but that Burnet team was scary on offense

2001 Forney Jackrabbits: anyone remember a guy named DaBryan Blanton? second round of the playoffs two 11-0 teams playing #1 vs. #2 in front of 15,000 at Pennington Field which only holds about 12,000...fans were six rows deep along the sidelines and in the end zones..

I'll post for the Vernon Lions

In 1990 Vernon beat Southlake Carroll in the Region I final. The Lions went on to win state that year. In 1992 SLC payed the Lions back and beat us in Bedford. I believe they won it all that year.

Both games were tough and the 1992 game (I think it was 92) is one that is always mentioned as one of the best high school football games of all time. Too bad we lost that one.

During the 03 season we played some very good teams:

Decatur (which was much more talented than our Lions) but the wind and our secondary killed their passing game. Beat them by 6.

Sweetwater was a rematch of a non-district game that the Lions lead 7-0 before the game was called due to storms. Sweetwater never had an offensive play in that game. So it was a real heated game in the regional quaterfinals. Vernon won 6-3.

Kennedale took us to overtime where Z Motion Jr caught the winning pass!!!! Again they had the better athletes but they didn't have a kicker and had to go for 2 points everytime. The Lions did have a kicker and we won that game.

I think the year we beat Willowridge, they were ranked #1 in the state had one of the best running backs in Thurman Thomas they had won 28 straight games going into that game in the astrodome and Bay City put it to them 42-0,Bay City went on to win the state championship but that game to me i will always remember.

This game (and its players) still lives in infamy in Cuero.

As for my hometown of Mathis, I'd say beating a state-ranked Odem in 1978 or 1979 (very exciting game) and beating Gatesville (a team that included sophomore Taurean Henderson) in the semi's in 1999

yeah, apparently, they used to be really really good back in the olden days, they were a team about 10 miles from my hometown, and now they are the butt of every joke.....

Liberty's best win i saw was my senior year when we were 4-4 and beat Hardin Jefferson in 3OT.Our best WR had been doubled all night, and that one play the qb noticed that he was ISO and checked it at the line, and he caught it for the win. It was glorious.

About two years later, Liberty finally beat Barber's Hill fair and square, gotta say that was a relief for a lot of past ball teams.

Even better than that, I think that Willowridge team was ranked 5th in the nation by USA Today going into that game. Bay City's win was a shocker to me. I wish I could have seen it.

For Burnet it would be

1991 Vernon Region Semis 20-20 tie advanced on first downs 19-17 after being tied on penetrations 3-3(Vernon was the defending state champ and ranked #1)

1991 Marble Falls Regional Final 14-14 tie advanced on penetrations 3-2(the Mustang team would've won state had they beat Burnet because they could throw the ball. Burnet advanced to state losing to Groesbeck 7-0 a team that had an AWESOME front 7, and unfortunately in those days Burnet hadn't even begun to think of the forward pass, it was all wishbone here then)

1991 SLC State semi-finals 7-7 tie advanced 2-1 penetrations(this was Burnet's third tie in a row, winning them all on statistics, this was the last team to beat SLC for about 3 years as the Dragons went on to win several titles in the coming years. Burnet only had 21 varsity players in 1991 but ALL were key contributors)

2002 Jasper State semi-finals(Jasper had an awesome front 7 that could STUFF THE RUN! The Jasper team wasn't prepared by their coaching staff at all. Stephen McGee had torn his ACL early in the 2nd quarter of the Regional final win over Sinton the week prior. He played the whole game in a full leg brace unable to move to avoid pressure. Jasper tried to sit back in pass coverage all game long not taking advantage of Stephen's lack of mobility and he tore them up through the air passing for over 300 yds in the first half, connecting with Jordan Shipley for 191 first half yards. Shipley was also battling staff infection in his big toe that would hospitalize him immediately following the state title game the following week against Everman. Everman however was well coached and doubled a hobbled Shipley and brought the house against McGee who was in the full leg brace and McGee had to just throw the ball away to avoid being sacked over a dozen times. Had Jasper played Burnet the way Everman did, they would've beat Burnet too and won state because you WEREN"T going to run the ball on those guys and that's all Everman could do. Just so happened the run defense was Burnet's weakness. IMO a healthy Burnet team would've won state in 02 in a runaway, but it wasn't in the cards. 02 Jasper was simply outcoached, but were the scariest team Burnet has ever played!
