This stage along with 13 & 14 are basically flat and will probably be dominated by sprinters again until next Tuesday when they reach the Alps and then the winner will probably be determinedd on Stages 15 to 18. Right now they have about 40 miles left in this Stage but there are some escapees who are about 3"55" ahead of the peloton. I think the peloton will catch them easily before this race today is over. We will see. Get ready for an exciting sprint at the end.

Today is Bastille Day in France so they would like for a Frenchman to win this stage.

The peloton is about 15 miles from the finish and is 4"40" behind the escapees. I still think it will close the gap but it had better hurry up and pick up the pace if it wants to catch them. They might let them go since none of them are contenders but I think the sprinters will want to catch them. We will see.

Phil,

I admire the pelotons courage to keep on riding! :)

The escapees are about 6 miles from the finish and the peloton is still about 4'25" behind and shows no interest in catching them since they are not considered serious contenders. One of the escapees is trying to make an escape from the other escapees because he is not a great sprinter. It is Yaroslav Popovych who is probably more interested in getting a stage win since he is 9 min behind Landis.

Popovych has won the stage. The peloton was 5 min behind. I don't know if they will try to catch up or not. This is good time gained by Popovych and he will probably be the new leader of Discovery Channel but the experts don't think he can keep up this pace but you never know.

The peloton has crossed the finish line 4'24" behind Popovych.

Below is a picture of Lance Armstrong who won a record seven straight Tour de France Races from 1999 to 2005. A great achievement indeed!!
