He was a great actor and appeared in many movies usually in supporting roles that added humor to the movies. He won the best supporting actor oscar in 1958 for his dramatic performance in Sayonara with Marlon Brando. He appeared in many great movies such as Hatari with John Wayne and Stagecoach (1965 version) with Ann Margaret. A great actor indeed. :(
