Texas' Young, Osterman named athletes of the year
QB led Horns to national title; softball pitcher took UT to College World Series.

DALLAS — University of Texas softball pitcher Cat Osterman and quarterback Vince Young have been named Big 12 Conference Athletes of the Year, the league announced Monday.
Osterman earned the honor for the third time in four years. She also was recognized in 2003 and 2005.
Nominees are submitted by each Big 12 institution and selected by a media voting panel based on 2005-06 athletic performance, academic achievement and citizenship.
Osterman led Texas to the College World Series in 2006 for the third time in four years. The right-hander compiled a 38-4 record this past season with a 0.42 earned-run average. She made 47 appearances, 39 starts and pitched 36 complete games. Osterman pitched 28 shutouts, five no-hitters, 11 one-hitters and 12 two-hitters in her final collegiate season. Opponents hit just .084 against her (78 for 933).

Young led Texas to the 2005 Big 12 and national championships with a 13-0 record and a last-minute victory over Southern California in the Rose Bowl title game.
He finished his collegiate career with a 30-2 record as a starter. His 93.8 winning percentage ranks sixth in NCAA history. He amassed 6,040 yards passing, 3,127 yards rushing and 81 touchdowns.
