The race is on. There is about 35 miles left to go. Three escapees are now 5'40" ahead of the peloton. My guess is the peloton will catch them unless they let them go like they did yesterday since none of them are contenders. The peloton may want to wait until the first mountain race tomorrow. We will see. Exciting indeed!

About 26 miles left and the escapees are now 4"40" ahead of the peloton.

We have about 10 miles left and the escapees are only 1'40" ahead of the peloton. I think the peloton is going to catch them today. There was a crash but fortunately none of the bikers seem to be injured seriously.

About 8 miles left and the escapees are only 1'10" ahead of the peloton. This promises to be an exciting sprint at the end. Excitement indeed!!

About 3 miles left. The peloton has gained and is now only 30" behind the escapees but two of them look like they are going to try to get away again. Hang on to your hat folks! This promises to be an exciting finish indeed!!

The escapees didn't have enough energy to hold off the peloton. There is now only about 1 mile left to go so get ready for a big sprint.

About 1000 meters to go! Hang on to your hats for a big sprint to the finish!!!!

Oscar Freire has won again!! An exciting finish. I don't think the overall standings are effective. Tomorrow the first mountain stage begins so things will change soon I think.

This was a very close race at the end indeed and it doesn't get much closer as Oscar held off McEwen to win the stage.

Below is a photo of the finish today. As you can see it was decided by about 1/2 of a wheel! Close indeed!
