Oswalt, Ordonez join All-Star rosters as replacements
Associated Press

Roy Oswalt of the Houston Astros and Magglio Ordonez of the Detroit Tigers have joined the National and American League All-Star rosters, respectively, after Pedro Martinez was placed on the disabled list and Red Sox outfielder Manny Ramirez opted out of the game.

Martinez (7-4) missed his start Monday and was placed on the 15-day disabled list because of a sore right hip.

Oswalt will make his second consecutive All-Star appearance and joins Lance Berkman as the only Astros on the NL squad. Oswalt pitched one inning in last year's game in Detroit.

Oswalt (6-5) ranks sixth in the NL with a 3.10 ERA. He is the only pitcher who's won 20 games the last two seasons and his 46 victories since the beginning of 2004 leads both leagues.

Oswalt was the MVP of the 2005 NLCS and is 4-0 in the postseason, the most playoff wins without a loss among active pitchers.

Ordonez is hitting .307 with 15 home runs and 59 RBI for the surprising Tigers. He replaces Ramirez, who's hitting .310 with 24 homers and 65 RBI.

The advantages of having your manager making the selections...

I do believe he deserves to go, however.

Same here. There should be no controversy over that one.
