Anything is possible, but I'd say Tatum would have a better chance if it were in Tatum. Gilmer hasn't lost at home since Sept. 2002.

Tatum hasn't beaten Gilmer in a while, so they ought to be well-motivated to try to pull the upset.

If you are coming, you'd better get there early, like maybe the night before. It'll be SRO.

I had to do a double-take when I read this. My nickname (since childhood) has been Low (from LowLow) Gobbler84 and We're Back still refer to me by that name :D

Low doesn't stay in the press box. He's down in the end zone manning one of the coaching staff's cameras. Great guy, BTW, as you already know.

Maybe this game will be as good as the one in the mid-90s where Tatum and Gilmer were in the same district, Tatum was ranked No. 2 in the state. The Buckeyes then proceeded to beat Tatum...and not make the playoffs.

Or as good as the 2004 Region II finals.

Or as good as the 2003 playoffs.

Any other ones people remember?

I forgot another classic that I was at, and I can almost guarantee you you weren't.

Gilmer at Tatum, Week 9, 2000. Tatum wins 21-14 (or 14-7...it was by a TD) to keep Gilmer out of the playoffs in Traylor's first year there. About 45 degrees and pouring the whole time. I went with two friends, and made up about a third of the people in the stands on the Gilmer side. It was raining hard enough that the band actually cancelled BEFORE lunch. It was cold, and it sucked. There was about 3 inches of standing water all over the field.

Fun for the Eagles to slip-n-slide in when they clinched a playoff berth. Hard for the Buckeyes to watch when Tatum was sliding 5 feet from the post-game huddle.

Gilmer will win this big match up again, Tatum won't be in football shape till about week 8.

The Red Mustache is living in Longview and has seen both of these teams. He states that Tatum will defeat Gilmer by one or two TD's. He has great respect for both teams and their fine coaching staffs. He said that Tatum has 5 D1 prospects with plenty of speed to burn and that it will be very difficult for most teams to cover those guys.

5 D-1 prospects?? o no what shall we do?? lol thats ok. the guy from rivals (I think he has a little credibility) says Gilmer has 6 D-1 players both this year and next. So there's no confusion here thats 6 seniors and 6 juniors. He says he's never seen a smaller school with that much talent just reload all the time. I agree it will be hard for MOST teams to run with Tatum but I think this is one that will be able to

That Gilmer economy must be busting out all over the place with all the transfers. I need to know what companies are thriving in Gilmer so I can cash in on the stock market.:)

They should still be in football shape from last season. They played dang near into May.:D

I really think Lennon Creer and the rest of the Iggles pull off a mild upset. Everyone's gunning for Gilmer, but there are only a couple of teams out there with the horsepower to pull it off. Tatum is one of those teams. Gilmer may have a little more talent, but if they don't bring their A-game Tatum wins.

I dont know that anything is "thriving" in Gilmer. It's the same ole stuff. Like posted before the athletes have always been there and there have been better ones than there are now. A good coaching staff to light a fire under some butts is bringing wins and naturally with wins comes attention.

big daddy russ - do you think its the same the other way around? If tatum doesnt bring their "A" game it could be a long night for them too?

Absolutely. Gilmer's probably the most dangerous small school team out there. I just think that Gilmer will have some growing pains sometime next year, and I think this is where it happens. The target on your back can get pretty heavy, and sometimes a team just needs a wakeup call before straightening up.

Like I said earlier, Tatum is a helluva ballclub. I can only think of three small school teams in the state that are in Gilmer's league talent-wise. Cuero, Bellville, and Tatum.

Just remember, a loss to Tatum may be the best thing to happen to the Buckeyes all year.
