I'm going to avoid talking about whether or not fans should get to vote on players...I have enough thoughts on that issue. My bigger gripe is with the pitching choices of the manager. So here is today's question...
Should the AL/NL manager be allowed to pick what pitchers he does/doesn't put on the All-Star team?
I bring this up because Ozzie Guillen chose to give preferential treatment by adding a VERY mediocore Mark Buerhle (9-5, 3.86 ERA) and Barry Zito (8-5, 3.38 ERA) while overlooking the Twins Fransisco Lariano (9-1, 1.99 ERA) and Curt Schilling (10-3, 3.63 ERA). Phil Garner even chose to take on a 4th closing pitcher with the Brewers' Derrick Turnbow (4-4, 21 Saves, 4.71 ERA) instead of taking Billy Wagner (3-1, 16 Saves, 2.33 ERA), Roy Oswalt (6-4, 3.27 ERA) or Chris Young (7-4, 3.11 ERA).
Obviously, Lariano is the biggest mistake here...but better pitching could have been chosen over what is out there.
