I got stuck at a Chevron station in Stockdale. You couldn't see the road it rain so hard. Waited 2 hours for it to quit so we could leave on our motorcycles.

They're gonna launch them off the Lexington. Something about all the barges still being in Louisiana.

can you see them from the HEB in portland?

Dunno. Sunset Lake Park is always a good place to view them. Violet Andrews Park as well, though you might have to get out of your car there to get a good spot. The HEB area might be too far from the water to be able to see them. Your view may also be blocked by buildings (Diamond Shamrock, Kmart, etc.)

wow, that'll be close. i guess setting up in front of the Raddison would be a bad seat. maybe we can go over by las brisas and the breakers.

Like I told D303aPP, Sunset Lake Park is a great place to watch them. Won't be as crowded as North Beach is either.

Of course, there's not really any great sand to relax on in that area...might wanna bring a lawn chair.

The boardwalk is on the other side of the lake from the park. Go to Portland, Exit Moore Avenue, turn left toward the Corpus Christi Bay. Follow the signs and the good pavement to Sunset Lake (I believe that you turn left on 5th and right on Houston, but don't quote me on that - I usually am coming from the other direction).

LOL isn't that the truth. I've been confused as to which park is which at times.

Also a great park to watch the fireworks is Bayside Park. It's at the end of Sabine Drive. Anyway that park has 25-30 foot tall clay dunes that are quite easy to climb for a good vantage point. If it's dry all day tomorrow, it may be worth checking that out as a good place for viewing too, though it is a favorite spot for Portlandites to watch the fireworks and will be crowded.

It's been a long time since I've seen this much rain. Me and misses were up until 4am and watched some pretty good down pours. We love the smell of rain in the early hours of the morning.
