The Speed limit it 80 Mph, what is txdot thinking, too many hills over there for that kind of speed. I believe it is some type of test. But only time will tell.

The idea is that there are so many drivers going that fast (and faster) already and with the regular law-abiding citizens driving the previous limit of 70, that would be more dangerous than raising the limit to 80 and strictly enforcing it. I have heard that if the DPS troopers catch someone doing even 81 they are getting pulled over. I have yet to have a reason for going that way yet so I don't know how the new limit is affecting the driving.

The speed limit on that stretch was previously 75.

I drove about 85 all of the way up to the Kansas line a few summers ago, then those yankies started getting strict with their speed limits etc... so I had to chill...

DPS wants you at 80 and no faster. I am speaking from experience and $130.00 later. Got a small lecture that I guess was deserved. They think that 80 mph is plenty fast. After the ticket, I must concur.

My son's girlfriends best friend was driving down I-10 about 45 miles out of El Paso last weekend and witnessed a head on collision at 80+ MPH. There was one fatality for sure!

80 isnt too fast if everyone will pay attention.

I agree that 80 mph is too fast! It would be fine 'if' all drivers were experienced and 'everyone' payed attention, but that isn't and will never be the case. 80 mph is too fast for unexperienced drivers that may incur a blowout, or something in the road such as deer. Their first instinct is to swerve and hit the brakes. If they do that at 80mph, chances are it will be their last time on the road. IMO, it's disaster waiting to happen. I just hope it's not anyone I'm close to when it does.

I like it and I shouldnt have to suffer because others arent ready or dont want it.
