What should the Astros do first?? Get some hitting or some relief pitching?? IMO i think that they should try and get another good bat before the trade deadline!! What about yall??

Better pitching isn't gonna help when you don't score any runs.

But they have a 9-1 lead the other day and the relief pitching stunk it up!!!

place the entire bullpen except Dave Borkowski on waivers. Bring Hunter Pence up from AA and let him play in the outfield. Talk Dennis Eckersley and Rollie Fingers out of retirement. Put Chris Burke at short and trade Adam Everett to whoever for a bat boy and some baseballs. Show the team a video on how a bat works, and that it is better if you swing it. Buy Roy Oswalt another tractor.

Everett????? Are you kidding? He is easily one of, if not the best on this team when it comes to defense. He has made a million plays that leave the announcers and myself speechless. Apparently you dont realize that while he may not have a high BA, his RBI is at 28 right now, one behind Lane and 7 ahead of Burke. I hate hearing people saying get rid of Everett and put in bruntlett or anyone else for that matter. He is HUGE on this team.

To tell you the truth, that sounds like a good idea! I

I never thought that Adam Everett was that good!!!

His defense may save a run every 5 games or so, but when you are getting outscored by 3-4 runs, it doesn't matter. Lane hasn't played in half the games this year (and for good reason). Burke only started playing because NOBODY could get on base, and he has shown that he deserves more playing time. Don't get me wrong, I know Everett is a wiz on defense, but there has to be a balance somewhere.

without the Rocket starting the season and with backe hurt, it looked like starting pitching would be weak link.
Relief pitching was supposed to be a strength. Who would have thought Qualls, Wheeler and Lidge would all struggle? Not to mention, Trevor Miller and Gallo and whoever else has pitched in relief.
It was also thought hitting would be pretty good. Taveras with another year of experience, Lane would improve (ha), Preston Wilson was going to hit 35 HRs playing in minute maid.
I dont know what to suggest they do. Everything sucks right now.

They need a sparkplug. I don't know if that guy will be a pitcher or a hitter, but what they really need is someone to light a fire under their @$$.

I'd love to see Aaron Rowand at Minute Maid, but then again, he's my favorite player. A guy like Rowand or Lenny Dykstra... just a hard-nosed, energetic guy to get everyone else back on track. They have the talent, it's just not clicking right now.

always something positive if you look for it.
Cards also playing poorly. Astros only 5 1/2 games out. around 4 games out on wild card. Much better than last year at this time.

Agree 100%.
I had pretty much given up on Astros last two years and they proved me wrong.
This year I'm trying to stay optimistic, which based on my normal run of luck, means the 'Stros will go completely into the tank.

The facat that they are only 51/2 games out with as crappy as they have been playing is very encouraging. The rest of the division is pretty crappy right now. Hopefully a mad rush to the finish could even secure us a 1st place finish. Thats just hopefuly thinking though.:D

get some new players as far as offensive production and fire the hitting coach.

Bulldog_12
06-29-2006, 05:08 PM
Firing the hitting coach wont solve a thing. Their production offensively is way up from last year, they have just hit a couple of really good pitchers this last week and a half and that is all you are remembering. And ESPN wont let you remember before that with all of their stats about Roger getting no support etc.

Case in point, the 12 inning game with the ChiSox. 10 runs etc.

Ok so why is the relieve pitching so bad?

Buccaneer
06-29-2006, 06:20 PM
The relief pitchers' ERA that relieve a game that Oswalt starts is 8.58 and that was before Sunday's game when the relievers gave up 7 runs in 2 innings after Oswalt left leading 9-2.

Should O's trade Tejada?

Baltimore Examiner columnist Phil Wood: "They had designs on a deal that would have brought Texas first baseman — and local product — Mark Teixiera to Baltimore, but that never panned out. A couple of sources said Houston offered shortstop Adam Everett and closer Brad Lidge, but the Orioles felt that wasn’t enough."

so we would score more runs, yet the bullpen would still give up just as many....im not so sure that deal would have been good anyway unless if we find a closer somewhere....

more positives about Astros. Although Astros are struggling, they have done much of it against the three hottest teams in baseball.
through Sunday's games the 3 teams with best records for past 15-16 games were the Twins, White Sox and Tigers. Twins had gone 15-1 and only picked up half a game on tigers. White Sox were like 13-2. Tigers I think 14-1. The one loss for twins was against 'Stros and one of the 2 losses for Sox was against 'Stros.
Possibly, and I'm only thinking out loud, astros aren't as bad as we (including me) think.
