Do they keep playing overtime until someone wins?

I believe the rule is two overtimes (I want to say 15 or 20 minutes each) and then they go to a shootout but I could be wrong.

You are right and both overtimes are 15 minutes each and are played out. There is no sudden win goal. After that the shootout is free kicks.

I think so. At least it is for the women's olympics. I will have to research this for the world cup.

good luck on the research. I looked around on the FIFA site for the men's info and couldn't find it...so I just had to trust my memory.

Ad I know in 1999 the Women's World Cup had sudden winning goal in the two overtimes but I think they changed it to like the men's but I am not sure.

The 1998 Men's WC had sudden winning goal in the 2OT's too. They changed both to the current format.

if it doesnt get resolved after regulation...they ought to just do free crotch kicks..last team left standing wins and advances. I think that would get more American viewers.

the penalty kicks are five for each team , the one making the most wins

word on the street thinks that soccer overtime would be more exciting if they did it like hockey. pick 5 guys for each side to have a penalty kick, and the side with the most makes wins.

i hate the round of sixteen in the world cup, it makes matches almost twice as long....which is my only gripe against soccer...well that and the dumb stretcher people

That's too funny!!!!!! Way to "Three Stooges" to be taken seriously. I was thinking like a slapping contest- take the biggest Billy Bada$$ from each team and have them just go back and forth wailing on each other (open palm slaps, only) until one of them submits or falls down.... but there's "no hands" in soccer except the goalie so that's not right either.

How about head butt contests? Everyone can use their heads, right? There you go!
