Gainseville is tough to beat on both sides of the ball, but if defense wins championships then they've got a great one.

Gainesville, Forney, Atlanta, and Daingerfield are the top four defenses in Region II. Don't say a word Spring Hill! Chapel Hill hung 59 on you in the first game!

It would certainly depend on what offense it's playing against.

How close is Burnet to being a 4A school?

I remember the first time I ever heard of Burnet was when they tied Southlake Carroll 6-6 in the State Semi-Finals of 1990 and advanced on penetrations because there was no overtime back then.

How close is Burnet to being a 4A school?I think we're at about 920. We'll probably be 4A next year. If we get a good District, I don't think it will matter much. Div 2 4A playoff's don't seem to be much tougher then Div. 1 3A.

There's some very good ball up there.

It was funny. At half time the Burnet fans would all gather and figure out who was ahead on penetrations. That was 1991. Vernon, Marble Falls, and Southlake Carroll. They added the overtime after that. It was called the Abernathy rule. Coach Abernathy was our coach that year.

Because Forney beat Gilmer 35-27 in the Regional Semi's, and then Forney lost to Southlake, then Southlake lost to you guys, then Vernon won that year correct?

Wrong. Burnet advanced past Vernon by penetrations. We lost the title game to Groesbeck 7-0. Tough loss for the town and the kids. That season had been the best for Burnet until last year. I hope this year Burnet finally brings home the ring. Before 1991 Burnet had never even won a playoff game in its history in football.

An interesting note. One of our line coaches was a star lineman on that 1991 team. His stories have been an inspiration to our kids last year and this year.

I agree those four are good, but you gotta include Gilmer this year. I saw Gilmer play this year and they are for real.

Buckeye,,it just so happens that I played against ya'll in '91. I believe Red Jones was your tailback. Halftime was delayed like 45 min. because of that storm that blew through

I have to say that the playoff game against Forney was one of the best games and most heartbreaking games I've seen. I think we were up pretty good on you guys, and then God thought it would be funny if it became impossible for us to actually hold onto the football: eight fumbles total I think. And I don't know who y'all had at right outside linebacker, but he hit our QB Tony Darden so hard, it hurt me, and Tony is a big guy.
An update on those guys if you care:
Tony Darden pitched in the Marlins minor league system for a while, and is now coaching baseball in Florida.
Red Jones went to Sam Houston State on a football/basketball scholarship, was being looked at by the Oakland Raiders, and then tore up his ankle and moved back to Gilmer.
Chris Darden was paralyzed in a car accident in I believe 1992, and never played for the Cincinnati Reds farm team.
I see the rest of the guys from time to time around East Texas.

I agree those four are good, but you gotta include Gilmer this year. I saw Gilmer play this year and they are for real.We are good, but our strategy is more to outscore everyone we play. Our defense is good enough to let our offense win it, but I don't think they're top 5 material.

Wish I could say Decatur, but we give it up in chunks! points too! we have to have at least 30 pts on the board or we could lose. thats what will beat us in the play-offs.
