oh looks like he's ok now, right back in the game. wow, just amazing. These guys are just whining whimps more concerned with what the ref calls than getting a shot on goal.

Anyone who thinks Reyna faked it is crazy, he is the team leader, and one of their toughest players. This is first time EVER in an international game he has had to subbed in for. He really was hurt

That's fine with me. More reason to play American sports... like Football (not Futbol or footy or whatever they call it in Europe), Basketball and Baseball. Funny how all of these sports have infiltrated the rest of the world stronger and at more levels than soccer has here. Is it because our sports are more challenging and complex? Superior? Maybe. Or maybe because the rest of the world just wants to be like Americans...

I find it funny that at american sports such as Baseball and Basketball, here in the U.S. leagues foreigners are the better players about 80% of the time...... Football on the otherhand is totally American.

thats nuts - an 8 year old is not gonna tell his mom he wants to quit soccer 'cause of a game he/she sees on TV ..... youth soccer will continue to grow despite what happens in the world cup

Soccer is a game that requires incredible stamina, great teamwork and dedication to execution. I just dislike many of the things that are associated with it world wide- hooliganism, the flopping that so often occurs when a player is nudged or smashed, the seeming mindless mania from so many fans, blatant European bigotry towards players of color, etc.

Not that our sports are perfect (steroid use, fixing of games, etc.) but how often do riots breakout because the Redskins beat the Cowboys?... Or that A&M upset Texas in hoops?... The overall climate in American sports seems to be played with more sportsmanship and is just generally more civilized.

And yes, I watch sports with my kids and tell them when players/coaches/fans are doing good things or bad things. My daughter knows the difference between playing hard and clean and playing dirty... and between playing with intensity and enthusiasm and playing to the crowd and officials... How did most of us learn to do this? From our parents and coaches. All of the things that I don't like about soccer are either taught or just allowed by omission of deeds.

I'm not sure about 80% of the time.... I can't find the stat at the moment but I'm sure that the % of members of the MLBPA that are American is better than 20%. I know your "80%" is more figurative than literal but.... Other nations of the world do have basketball and baseball teams (and individual players) that are as good and/or better than our teams which goes back to my original point- American sports have completely infiltrated other countries where soccer is still struggling here but very dominant world wide.

I am sorry the USA lost and didn't live up to the hype and encouragement that they would be real good and competitive this year. Especially since Italy handed them a chance to get to advance but we didn't take it but be encouraged. Women's College Soccer is coming soon!! :)

the hype? usa does not know the meaning of hype. we win and everyone says "yay!" then changes to their other favorite show. all the other countrys celebrate out in the streets. my friend in england showed some pictures of the after victory parties....i wish i could be there, having that much pride/support.

Well, most here just don't get into it. Our world cup is the super bowl. I don't think it's a matter of national pride at all. We all are different societies and have different ways of showing our pride.

wow so i just got back and was able to see some highlights, we actually made some chances for ourselves, but sadly couldnt follow through. Once again we had some terrible officiating, and cost us the deciding goal, even though it really didn't matter. another world competition dissappointment.

alright did you see this play? IMO from the close replays they showed, the worst thing that could have happened ( i really didn't see anything) was that he got kicked in the shin. I think that happens a whole lot, so it wasn't that big of a deal. I think he knew what was about to happen and a) did his best to stop him by getting a call and b) needed some sort of excuse. He was back in the game within a few minutes, after being carried off on a freaking stretcher.

This comment couldn't be farther from what should happen. The USA is such a diverse country when it comes to sports all sports get thinned out when a particular athlete pick's a sport later in their adult/teen life in which to participate. In other countries such as the example DU_stud has given are not as financially able to support more than one or two sports so all the Athletes play one or the other which makes them pretty strong in either of those sports . What's the saying *To be the best ,you have to beat the best* well right now the best players are from outside of the U.S. give or take a few of the usa's top notch players and will remain that way and I dont see that changing anytime soon.

it looked to me that the guy from ghana's knee hit Reyna's knee on the side....if u ever had that happen u can understand how u collapse after that...the stretcher deal is just soccer, apparantly its a rule in soccer that u have to fake injury and get carried off to the sideline, but i do really think that Reyna was hurt, he didnt finish the game which is really rare for him....
