The favorites to win it all is probably between Germany and Brazil. Most of the experts feel Brazil is the better team but Germany has the home field advantage since the games are in Germany. But of course in soccer anything can happen and the best teams don't always win. That is why soccer has such widespread following with strong passion.

The good thing is that ESPN is televising the games. Consult your tv guide for the channels and time.

Even as far away from the games here as one surfs the web one can feel the tension and excitement in the air that the fans in Germany that are going to the games must be feeling. Remember these games are going to be watched world wide.

The first game between Germany and Costa Rica has started. Let the madness begin!

Phil C
06-09-2006, 11:14 AM
It didn't take long for Germany to score and they lead 1 - 0. Man don't you all wish you could be there? You can feel the excitement in the air even all the way over to hear.

Phil C

Costa Rica scores and it is tied 1 to 1!!
The television seems to show they were offisides but the officials missed it. Hope there aren't any riots.

Phil C
06-09-2006, 11:35 AM
Germany scores 2 to 1.

Did you know if one more goal is scored in this match it will tie the record for most goals scored, four, in an opening match of the FICA World Cup?

Phil C
06-09-2006, 11:36 AM
I recommend that everyone get to a tv or at least get your recorders set quickly. This is a great game to watch for newcomers for the curiousity factor because it has lots of attacking and fast paced action with memorial goals and a little bit of controversy already. Also the pagentry is unmatched.

crazy stuff. What is the time at in this match? Also, this is a very important game because Costa Rica has an excellent chance to upset Germany and increase its chances of advancing to the knockout/medal rounds.

I'm not sure of the time but it looks like it is early evening in Germany. They just showed a 17 year old girl (or she looked that age anyway) in the stands and can you believe it - she looked like she was bored out of her mind. She doesn't realize the historical importance of this event.

After more review of the replay the experts seem to think that the Costa Rica player was not offsides after all. Still there was controversy when he made the goal. Good job by the refs.

Missed the second half of the GER/CRC game. Will miss POL/ECU game because we don't have cable at work.

Don't care if Costa Rica loses. They're a bunch of hacks who only got in because our region is weak once you get past USA and MEX.

I hope MEX loses every game they play by 4 goals. I only hate MEX when it comes to soccer, but then I hate them very much.

USA will have an extremely hard time gettimg out of group stage. The opener against CZE is key. But we have a decent chance, because CZE is getting bitten by the injury bug HARD right now.

ITA is overrated, in my opinion, but that still means they're one of the best sides in the competition. If Totti comes back from his injury strong, watch out. He's one of the best attacing midfielders on the planet.

The GHA game is very much an unknown. They called up some players that nobody's ever seen for the final squad. Luckily for us, we'll have seen them play the same opponents that we've played by then, so we'll know what to expect when the game rolls around.

If we can nab 4 points in the first two matches, we should control our own destiny, which would be great.

A return trip to the quarterfinals or farther would be an EXCELLENT result for this tournament. However, as with every World Cup, if you're not BRA, ARG, ENG, GER, FRA or ITA...getting out of the group stage is considered a successful tournament, ESPECIALLY if you are in the Group of Death like USA is.

There's some expert analysis for you.

this reminds me of my suitemait from my freshman year. he is from peru and played soccer his whole life. since uta doesnt have a team, only organized clubs, he decided it was the best we would get. he was playing keeper and it was towards the end, his team sucked. he got the ball as keeper and decided to take the ball himself. drove the length of the field makingpeople look stupid and scored with no problem. probly the greatest play ive ever seen. funny thing is he turned to his team and just shrugged.

they won 1-0

I'm surprised the Ivory Coast kept it this close. Argentina needs to just close them out. They've been screwing around too long. Sloppy passing all game and they still had a 2-0 lead, then squandered a nice lead.

Reminded me of the Dutch, the Italians, or the US Hoops Dream Team. More talent than just about anyone, they just can't seem to work as a team.

Manck
06-10-2006, 09:31 PM
None of the Ivory Coast players were making runs off the ball. That was key. They've got gobs of raw talent, as noted by Drogba's goal. But you HAVE to run off the ball.

Now T&T's draw against the Swedes was a true display of teamwork. When Avery John, who is a pretty damn good player, gets ent off 30 seconds into the second half, I expected Sweden to blow them out. But Beenhaker made a great sub putting in Glen, and Shaka Hislop put on a great performance in the net. Hopefully T&T can put up a decent show against England.

I hope the pitch spontaneously combusts in the Mexico/Iran match tomorrow.

USA ON MONDAY.

They're not seamless, but the panels are nowhere near the same as any traditional soccer ball.
