BAYTOWN — In the short history of the Bayou Bowl, there has been no shortage of talent for either team as athletes who participated in the game went on to play at powerhouse NCAA Div. I programs. This year, Texas will have 15 athletes from the 2006 team moving on to play D-I football and Louisiana will have 18.

Among the high profile athletes who will be gracing Stallworth Stadium next Saturday will be Charles Scott, a running back out of Jonesboro Hodge who will attend LSU next season. Scott was the Louisiana Gatorade Player of the Year and ranked No. 50 by rivals.com on the national level. The running back was the second highest recruit out of Louisiana this year after rushing for 2,039 yards and 28 touchdowns. Scott is listed at 5-11, 223 pounds and runs for a 4.5 in the forty.

Ricky Dixon was the seventh-highest rated prospect out of Louisiana out of East St. John. The wide receiver, which was listed as the 23rd best receiver in the nation by rivals.com will attend LSU next season. Dixon is listed at 6-2, 205 and runs a 4.6 in the forty. Last season Dixon accounted for 1,838 yards and 25 touchdowns.

Lazarius Levingston will give the Louisiana team an imposing presence on the defensive side of the ball. Levingston was rated the 14th best prospect in the state of Louisiana and 36th overall at strong side defensive end by rivals.com. Levingston, who is listed at 6-4, 265 and runs the forty in 4.7, had 82 tackles last season, 18 for loss. Levingston also had eight sacks on the year and will attend LSU.

Troy Giddens was rated 13th in the state of Louisiana and 32nd overall as an athlete by rivals.com. Giddens, who is listed at linebacker and will attend LSU is 5-11, 218 and runs a 4.32 in the forty. Last season, Giddens had 150 tackles, 87 of which were solo, to go along with nine sacks.

One of the two quarterbacks on the Louisiana roster will be Tyler Wolfe who will be attending Louisville next season. Wolfe, who was second team all-state is listed at 6-5, 195. Last season Wolfe threw for 2,250 yards and 22 touchdowns.

The Texas team will be stacked on the defensive side the ball, as four of the top five prospects will be on that side. Leading the way for the Texas team will be Chyckie Brown of Galena Park North Shore. Brown was the 53rd highest rated prospect in the nation as a defensive back and sixth in the state of Texas. Brown is listed at 6-1, 180 and runs a 4.4 in the forty. Last season, the future Longhorn had 78 tackles, five of which were for a loss and five interceptions.

The Oklahoma State Cowboys will be well represented in the Bayou Bowl, as Terrance Anderson and Patrick Lavine will both line up on the defensive side of the ball. Anderson was rated as the 21st best football player in the state of Texas out of Aldine. Anderson, who will be a defensive back, ran for 1,016 yards and 12 touchdowns while throwing for 800 yards and 10 touchdowns.

The future Cowboy is listed at 6-0, 173 and runs a 4.3.

Lavine is also listed as a defensive back although he may see time at linebacker in college. Last season, Lavine was listed as the 32nd best prospect in the state out of Jersey Village. He was a finalist for the Houston Touchdown Club Defensive Player of the Year in a season where he had 63 tackles and two interceptions. Lavine who is listed at 6’2, 210, runs a 4.65 in the forty and was second team all-district as a punt returner.

One of the two quarterbacks for the Texas team will be Jerrod Johnson who was the Houston Touchdown Club Player of the Year. Johnson was the 40th highest rated player in the state of Texas last year and will attend Texas A&M next season. The Humble product is listed at 6-6, 219 and runs a 4.5. He was also a stellar basketball player and was on the Wildcats’ basketball team.

Rajon Henley, out of Galveston Ball, is the 58th rated prospect in Texas and 38th nationally among defensive tackles. Henley will attend Texas Tech and is listed at 6’3, 250. Last year, Henley had 46 tackles and five sacks while recovering two fumbles in an injury-plagued season.

The Texas roster for the Bayou Bowl will also have several local athletes. Outside linebacker Joshua Jackson, who will attend Southeast Missouri, will represent Sterling. Defensive lineman Jesse Trejo, who will attend Sam Houston State, will represent Lee, and Cedric Moore of Barbers Hill will line up at wide receiver. Next season Moore will attend Trinity Valley.

Dustin Kempf of La Porte will line up at tight end. Kempf will attend the Air Force Academy next season.
