Exorcist: The Beginning 2005 (The Exorcist 1973)

The Longest Yard 2005 (The Longest Yard 1974)

The Omen 2006 (The Omen 1976)

Poseidon 2006 (The Poseidon Adventure 1972)

Superman Returns 2006 (Superman:The Movie 1978)

Ocean's Eleven was a remake... Also Gone in 60 Seconds, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Bewitched, The Producers, etc. were based on previously made TV shows or movies... not to mention the Mission Impossible franchise. Oh, and there was even a Mod Squad movie made not too long ago...

There really are getting to be fewer and fewer original stories being told in TV/movies today. That's not always a bad thing but it seems remakes have either been in bunches or in a slow steady flow. That's part of the reason why I liked 24 so much- very original format and good plot twists and turns.

That being said... there are original stories out there (Brokeback Mountain) that I'd choose not to see. Give me a remake of John Wayne's "The Cowboys" or "The Outlaw Josey Wales" before that very original "tragic love story."

Rob Zombie is gonna remake Halloween.

Official web site (http://www.robzombie.com/news/default.aspx/nid/8345)

Additional info from eonline (http://www.eonline.com/News/Dotted/0,165,1,00.html?fdnavnews2)
Only a Zombie could bring back Michael Myers from the dead. Rob Zombie resurrects one of the big screen's favorite horror villains for his reinterpretation of the John Carpenter classic Halloween. Zombie produces, writes and directs the new Halloween movie, serving up what is being called as a "brand-new vision" for the long-running horror series. Zombie also serves as a music supervisor for the Miramax and Dimension films production. Those involved say the film isn't setting out to be a sequel or a straight-forward remake of the original, but a reimagining intent on bringing new blood to the Myers story. An October 2007 release is being planned.

I almost wonder why they haven't remade Gone with the Wind.
It was about ten years ago at a conference in Austin I met a man and his wife and we were discussing how Hollywood and tv were having trouble coming up with new ideas with all the remakes and everything and he hit on a strong point that even back then when those movies were originally made that they weren't really original ideas.

There was the writer's guild strike several years ago. It turns out that none of them were ever rehired to write hollyweird movies again. In fact most of them had to seek new jobs. Fully 2/3 of them were eventially hired as refs for the NBA.

Oh yeah I forgot that one...:o Of course I just remembered that there was a one hit wonder in the 80's that did a medley of "Freebird" and "Baby I Love Your Way" using synthesizers. That was bad.

I think a big screen remake of Dawn at Socorro would get Hollywood back on the right track! For all of the mediocore films that they keep remaking...why not do a modern day version of this all-time classic?

The TV-Version re-make of "The Ten Commandments" was horrible. This should be done again---this time by Steven Spielburg for the big screen, and starring "name" actors. I don't think Charlton Heston could get up out of his rocking chair to play Moses again.

I wouldn't use "name" actors for something like this. Say they pick somebody like John Travolta to play Moses (just throwing a name out there). Well you already have thoughts about the type of character this person should play. Also, it would just seem weird seeing somebody that you "know" playing a role that you already "know." Then again...I think it worked very well with Martin Sheen (General Lee), Tom Berenger (General Longstreet), Jeff Daniels (Col Chamberlin), and even George Lazenby (Brig General Pettigrew) in Gettysburg. I think with religious films it's much harder than a historical film.
