MOHAWK! That though was stupid. It was Lucky that dismantled the Fightin' Hawk bustin' through the state. He went with a scripts Hawks on the side of the helmet. That was out just as quick as he was and the Iowa Hawkeye decal was inserted. This lasted for several years before an assortment of different designs filled in, including the Fighting Hawk to commemorate the school's 100th year in operation. Coach Ellis liked the look of the wings that Coach Nelms had used during one of the years of assortment and they have been on the IP helmets since he took the reins I believe. I like the look of yesteryear but I have also grown fond of the wings. So long as it's green, plays in a nest shaped stadium, and has Hawks on the front of the jersey I guess I'll be cool with it. Go Mean Green!

PS: at least the fight song is still Dixie! or is it?? Nope, they changed that one too, slightly. The band directors re worked the fight song and sped it way up so that there is still enough Dixie there to keep the traditionalists happy but it's far enough away that they can claim it to be something else. Being PC is nothing but BS.

Yeah, I liked it much better than the script or the hawkeye. I too have grown comfortable with the wing, a la the Philadelphia Eagles.

I tell ya I really like the new unis this year. The cartoon type numbers the last couple year drove me nuts. The new ones this year were pretty sweet.

The hawks got some more new jersey's for next year... alot of the seniors bought there jerysey's so coach ellis went ahead and bought new ones for the 2006 squad... i heard they got matching pants to!
