I think that the high school football bracket should be set up like the Basketball, Softball, and Baseball brackets. that way we would know who the best team in each classification really is................no more who is better Wimberley or Tatum...............any thoughts?

Would there even be enough time to get all the games in?

and that mean the state champions would have to play something like 20 games a year. Maybe I'm just thinking about though.

it would require dropping the 3rd place team from the field, and that won't happen now that the UIL has allowed a 4th team in class 5A to enter the playoffs... a one game playoff at the end of the 16 weeks, in week 17 would be good though

its only one extra week........all districts champs get a bye, and after the first week its just like the division II playoffs.

Hmmm....how does having every coach in the state, all classes, asking for your head in February every other year sound? ;)

What about having a Div 1 Champ vs Div 2 Champ winner is State Champ:)

UIL would never go for it? They went for it for a long time, what, 8 years with just a 64 teams field and one champ???

I don't think they'll do it again myself, but the winners of both divisions playing each other would be pretty cool, but one team gets one week off before the big one unless all D1 have a bi in the first round...

i don't know how they would do it, 64 teams or champ vs. champ, but i want it done, and i plan to do so after i am elected UIL President!!!

I really like the idea of District champ receiving a bye, 2nd and 3rd place teams playing bi-district.

I have talked to several coaches about this and they are dead set against it. I can see their point even though I would love to see these games. Its kind of pointless to play out a bracket and be delared the winner only to lose the next week. I say champs get a bye first week and everyone goes into the same bracket.

Giving the district champ the first week off is a fabulous idea. It makes winning district a real meaning. It would be something to work for and not just getting another playoff spot!

I have to put in my two cents worth each time this subject comes up.

First, I agree with whoever said winning district should gain you something! Instead of a bye, maybe give the district champs home field advantage. Many coaches don't really want to get out of sync by skipping a game when receiving a bye.

Secondly, there is one main point for all the extra 3rd and now 4th place teams entering the playoffs. It's called the UIL and it means more MONEY, MONEY, MONEY, MONEY, for the scrooges in Austin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

mac, check your Biblical reference. "Money" by itself is not the root of all evil. Money is not living, breathing, nor does it have conciousness. It's "the love of money" (human behavior) that is the "root of all evil".

FYI...
