She is 13 year old Katharine Close of Spring Lake, NJ and she won it by spelling ursprache. She is the first girl to win the contest since 1999. Congratulations Katharine.

that one boy missed a word that seemed fairly easy - "Paillon" I think it was.. anyway.. he said he figured it was spelled that way, but it seemed "too easy" so he left the "i" out, thinking they were slipping a tricky word in.
