Kimbrel, Yoe finish Hudson

HUNTSVILLE - Seeing a pair of leads evaporate Saturday served as motivation rather than disintegration for the Cameron Yoe Yoemen.

Rather than wilting in the heat, the 10th-ranked Yoemen used the iron-man right arm of Brandon Kimbrel and a five-run sixth inning to propel them to a 9-5 victory over No. 2 Lufkin Hudson at Sam Houston State University Baseball Complex.

It also sends the 24-9 Yoemen into the Class 3A Region III against Bridge City. The best-of-three series at Houston’s Baseball USA will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday and continue at 5 p.m. Friday.

Hudson is finished at 27-8.

“They could have gotten their heads down,” Yoe coach Tommy Brashear said. “But these guys are competing year-round in all sports and they are successful.

“They had their graduation last night and they missed a senior party today,” he said. “We stayed here last night in a hotel and they said there is no way we are going to come down here and lose. They were focused.”
