This is just ridiculous...why not play all 3 games in Abilene? This is just plain stupid on the part of both coaches IMO.

Well I think all the college fields are being used. HSU doesn't have a fence, MMU is used, and ACU is being used. None of the high school fields in Abilene even come close to Moffet so I think it's a great Idea.

I just hope they don't use Victoria chapter umpires unless 18 recommends them or we could be in trouble.

On the Snyder - Decatur series....... what about ACU? Another poster said it was taken. I can't find any series that is being played at ACU. Tons of games at McMurray, Midland and SLC at HSU... who is playing at ACU?

How does having fans have to drive about 218 (according to Yahoo! maps) miles ONE WAY good for a regional semifinal baseball game? It will result in one-sided crowds...and thus it comes down to a coin flip. Playing in Abilene would have been a MUCH better choice for both teams as it would 1) allow for more seating and 2) provide a moderate drive for both teams.

If I was still living in Abilene (I moved to Dallas recently), it is one that I would enjoy going to watch and would probably catch a game or two if it was played in Abilene.

1. Why don't you expand on your comment? Are you referring to those that umpire the youth league games? Are you referring to the TASO chapter out of Abilene?

2. For a high school game, TASO officials are used. For a high school PLAYOFF game, these officials would come from a chapter agreed upon by the coaches. I believe that Snyder uses either Midland or Lubbock for their games...and Decatur either uses a Ft Worth or Wichita Falls crew. This would leave the most logical chapter to pull from as either Abilene or San Angelo.

I can try, but it'll be between commercials of the Lost season finale.:( If I could pick up the radio station in my house, I would be watching Lost and listening to the game, but instead, I'll be making trips out to the car.

Lindale 8 Van Alstyne 1

Carson Middleton of Lindale, who is probably the best pitcher out of Region 2, struck out 19 batters in the game and gave up 4 hits.

Lindale only managed 5 hits but was helped by 5 Van Alstyne errors.

Before this thread fades into downlow sunset, I wanted to point out what a great weekend of baseball this was. A lot of people saw some incredible games this weekend. Some were games that the towns will be talking about for years. Wild celebrations by the victors and a lot of heartbreak for those who just came up short.

1 - Cameron Yoe upsets Lufkin Hudson. Many baseball fans, particularly in Region 3, were anticipating next week's matchup between Bridge City/Hudson, Kevin Angelle vs. Brandon Belt-- arguably, the two best pitchers in 3A this year. But Belt, who many think will be drafted in the first round, was not at his best and Cameron played great. Probably because of all the pressure the kid has faced all year long with scouts at every game and the publicity he has gotten statewide, Belt loses his composure arguing a call, gets thrown out of the game, and has to be escorted off the field.

2 - Sinton/Halletsville. Trailing 4-2 going into the bottom of the 7th, Sinton rallys to score three runs to take game 1. If that wasn't exciting enough, Sinton wins 3-2 in the 2nd game in 9 innings that saw 2 of Sinton's runs taken away on a "step out of the batter's box" call and a bunt that scored a run that was eventually called a foul ball and an out because it was a 2-strike bunt. There was also a close play at the plate for an out in the bottom of the 7th when Sinton's catcher just did barely tag the Halletsville runner at home and sent the game into extra innings.

3 - Falfurrias/West Columbia. Falfurrias wins the first game 2-1 even though they were outhit 11-5. 2nd game goes 11 innings in which Fal won 8-6. Going into the bottom of the 5th, it looked like Fal had things locked up with a 5-0 lead and Garcia throwing a no-hitter through 4. But WC scored a run and then hit a grand slam to tie things up. It was six innings later before anyone else could score.

4 - Snyder/Decatur. Game 1. Sophomore sensation Lance Day pitches a 1-hit shutout through 6.1 innnings as Snyder lead 2-0 in Decatur. Day then commits an error to open the door. Decatur follows with a HR and three singles to take game one 3-2. In game 2, Decatur puts on a brilliant display of "small ball" with stolen bases, a slash hit and run, bunt sacrifices, and suicide squeeze plays to take a close one 5-3 and wrap up the series.

5- Wylie/West Game 1. Going into the bottom of the 5th, Wylie trails 9-2. You think a game is over at this point. But Wylie scores 2 in the 5th, 4 in the 6th, and then scores 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th to pull out the improbable win.

Have we already used our quota of incredible games in 3A baseball this year or is there more to come?
