In your HS football team's history, which games that they lost "hurt" the most? Game details?

For the Bulls, last season's 3rd round 43-42 playoff loss to Monahans had to be right up there as a "tough" loss, because the Bulls failed on 7-out-of-7 extra point attempts---any two of which would have had them playing against Sweetwater the next week.

That was probably the most depressing game I had ever heard about...that or the Midland High/Converse Judson game!

'99 State Finals against Liberty-Eylau. Words cannot express how horrible this game was.

I have always heard about that game, RM, but never had a chance to read any of the game summaries. It doesn't "hurt" any more than to lose a shot at the state championship on a field goal in double overtime.

The last two losses for Cuero seemed hurtful...

'04 - Lost in State Finals on last-second game-winning FG to Abilene Wylie...

'05 - Lost in State Semi-Finals on last-minute game--winning FG to Hutto...

Meaning we need to recruit FG-blockers and play softies in the big games...

Mine has to be Giddings lost to Cameron last year. We were all over them the first half of the game going into halftime with a 20-0 lead. We had them shut down. Then the tale of two halves!! They shut us down and went on to score 21 points. We missed an extra point in the first half.

It was standing room only for that game. Cameron doesn't have much room on the visitors side so some of our fans sat on the Home side. One endzone had 2-3 deep standing from one side of the field to the other.

The loss was a real heartbreaker for the kids and the fans.

I agree :( :(

but being the "glass is half full" person that I am, I am going to think that the 3rd time's the charm:)

The sad thing is that he kicked the field goal straight and on a good night it would have been good but unfortunately the wind caught and moved it over just far enough to hit the crossbar and be deflected out. An inch the other way and it would probably have been deflected in.

1990 i believe against Hempstead... Sinton needed a FG to win with the game on the line... Eric Garza misses when he had been perfect for most of the season i believe...

I don't think that one hurt as much as you might think. Wylie was a 5-5 team that season with a sophmore QB. However...who made the state semifinals that season? It wasn't Clyde was it?

Fairfield vs Bellville 2002 third round of the playoffs we were driving in for the winning touchdown and got the ball intercepted on the 6 yard line it was heartbreaking we got it back missed a field goal to tie the sad thing was it was 10-7 and they got all 10 of there points on our mistakes. Our defense was amazing that year. Bellville was a pretty dang good team also they went to the state semis i believe.

I think I remember listening to that Sinton game on the radio when I was younger. Wasn't the opponent Vernon?

The Crockett fans would probably pick the Sinton game that they thought they had won and Sinton got a tie and advanced on penetrations. I think it was in the early 90s. Back then ties were played out in OT but thank goodness they are now.

God...where do I start?

1990 4A regional final vs. Austin Westlake--stopped inches short of a first down nearing FG range in the last minute, lost 29-26.

1991 4A reginal final vs. Westlake--stopped on downs in Chap territory in the last minute, lost 25-21

1993 4A semifinals vs. La Marque--lost on a 7-yd. TD pass with 3 seconds left, final score 33-31.

1996 4A semifinals vs. LaMarque--rallied from 14 point second half deficit to force OT, then missed chip shot FG for the win. LM kicked winning FG on next possession, final 24-21.

2000 4A semifinals vs. WOS--Leading 20-19 with 2 minutes left, we were stopped on downs deep in WOS territory. 3 plays later WOS scores on a 50 yard screen pass (yep, a screen pass) and wins 27-21.

2003 4A semifinals vs. Bay City--Down 16-0 in the second half, we rally to go up 21-16 with 5 minutes left, only to see BC march down and score the winning TD with under 2 minutes left. A FG attempt at the gun falls short. Final 23-21.

2005 4A DII Finals vs. Lewisville Hebron--We lose our starting QB to a knee injury on the first series of the game. We hang in for a while but in the 4th quarter the dam breaks. We lose 28-0.

Man...that was depressing.:(

funny story, but not really. I was at the game a week before when Sweetwater demolished Glen Rose in Brownwood and people were anticipating the rematch of Sweetwater and Snyder. When asked if I would make the trip from Austin to Big Spring to see Sweetwater beat the crap out of Snyder or if I would just wait to see the Mustangs in the semis, as all my friends were predicting I replied there would be no semis for us and my friends looked at me in disbelief. The friday night of the game I got a call from a friend of mine and as soon as I answered without even knowing what had happened I said "missed field goals suck" and my friend was silent for about a minute and asked who had told me and when I replied no one he was in total disbelief.

I'm sure there are games to others just as bad, but the worst for me is the 2002 loss to Yoakum, round 2 of the playoffs. I'm still bitter over it, if I think about it and still cry when I watch the video. :( AND, to rub salt into the wound, those dang Bulldogs from Bandera won the state championship after we defeated them pretty handily in district. ;)

That was a bad one, LHPM. We have had some heart-breakers in the playoffs the last few years. '03 loss to PI - right on the goal line.... '04 loss to Jasper in the semi-finals - again on the goal line when we'd held them scoreless in the second half. I think that was the worst one for me. This year was bad - but it wasn't down to the wire like those. Of course, this year had a different pain since it was my youngests' last game. :weeping:

My senior year we lost homecoming i believe 10-7 or 14-7 to manor. We were driving down and on the manor 10 yard line but just ran out of time. It was very depressing to loose your senior year homecoming.
The state championship vs Tatum hurts. We were up 34-31 with 3min left in the game. Lost 38-34. Flew from washington state to austin, than drove 3hrs to dallas to see that game. It was a GREAT experience, but it hurts losing the ones you felt you should have won

It was Waco Crockett(or was it Waco Robinson)? lol
A heckofa game even though we lost. Huge Sinton crowd there.:)
Yes, Eric missed the FG but goodness he was also our best RB on the team too. Sinton might not have been there without him. Can't blame the poor guy, I have always felt bad for him.

The toughest loss I have seen was the 2000 second or third round loss that Cameron had to Marlin. The Cameron kicker was spectacular that year but he missed an extra point in regulation and then in OT another extra point was missed (I don't think it was the same kicker). Cameron lost by 1 point.
