venezuela gas prices are 12 cents a gallon. and it is not a mistake

Hugo Chávez says they keep the prices low to discourage President Bush.

id pay any amount for gas before id move to Venezuela.

I heard that on the Today show. They also said that the average person only earns about $5 per week.

Think of it as percentages. If gas is $3 a gallon in the US, and you have a 15gal tank, it takes $45 to fill up. If work 40hrs a week at $8 an hour (I'm rounding up on gas and down on wage), a fill up takes roughly 14% of your weekly paycheck.

However, if you make $5 a week in Venezuela, and gas is 12cents per gallon and a 15 gallon tank costs $1.80, then gas takes up roughly 36% of your paycheck!!

I think I'll take the U.S. in this one.

I believe they are socialist. I think the gas prices are as low as they are partially because of government subsidies.

Didn't think of that. Very good point.

Our government gives subsidies to the oil companies too, and we're still getting charged $3 a gallon. The primary difference is that the actual gas company down there is OWNED by the government.

That's true... AND, our government charges 40-60 cents tax per gallon (depending on which state you live in).

Very true, much of which is used as revenue for local government.
