The finals were this morning and 4-3A wrapped up the day with 3 gold medals and a silver medal. They also picked up a bronze medal yesterday. Also, Region 1 won all 5 events and also had the 2nd place finisher in 2 of those events. Only 2 of the 10 Region 1 entries failed to medal at state. As I predicted...Luke Hawk did lose less than 8 games in his 3 matches at the state tournament as he finished with a total of 7 games lost.

Girls Singles
Marissa Briggs (Abilene Wylie) def Brooke Dennis (Abilene Wylie) 6-3, 3-6, 6-2

Girls Doubles
McClarty/Williams (Abilene Wylie) def Crane/Sherwood (Wimberley) 6-1, 6-0

Boys Singles
Luke Hawk (Clyde) def Scott Milner (Borger) 6-0, 6-3

Boys Doubles
Cariens/Paxton (Levelland) def Cauthron/Goode (Van) 6-4, 6-4

Mixed Doubles
Fenter/Clifton (Vernon) def Lorren/Patrick (Lindale) 6-4, 5-7, 6-4

shut up!! you're not nice

my mom/dad said the competition was sad ... supposedly all the wylie players played bad, but still won ...

i guess your theory of 3A tennis is coming more true and true adidas ... "back in your day ... "

Yeah...most competitions in high school keep getting better every year as the talent level rises to heights that weren't seen by near as many schools and teams even as recent as 5 years ago. However, this is definitely not the case in tennis...it's really a sad state of affairs in 3A tennis.

I wonder how 2A teams would do against 3A teams? I know Mason has a heck of a program ... they dominate more than Wylie ... won like 15 out of the last 20 championships

Wonder if it has anything to do with the state of Men's professional tennis the past few years? The fact that you don't have any big American superstars like Agassi, Sampras, McEnroe, Connors, etc. Mens tennis is pretty boring these days. You still have Roddick, but what has he done?

Just curious, but does Wylie have a tennis "only" coach?

yes. She coaches two or three junior high classes along with the JV and Varsity teams.

not to point out any mistakes by Adidas ... but since the past couple of years, the Wylie varsity coach only does the high school varsity and jv team.

before two years ago, there never really was an assistant, it was always just some random person. actually had a football coach as an assistant my sophomore year ... but since we have a true assistant tennis coach that knows tennis, she does the junior high program ... of course the high school coach visits the junior high and meets with them, but not on an everyday basis.

the varsity coach is kathryn gilreath, used to be kathryn scott ... she played at Abilene Cooper during their great years (3 straight 5A titles) and then was a Big 12 doubles champ while playing at A&M. The assistant coach is Rose Bristow who played high school in the Corpus area and played college at HSU.

the previous wylie coach that adidas and i played under is stacy bryan, who is now an assistant at abilene high after taking a couple of years off when her husband was moved to Wichita Falls because of air force

just some info ... i am sure adidas and i could talk all night long ... but we will save y'all

Not only does she coach the Jr. High and High School, but when I was a senior in '03, she was my newspaper advisor also on top of all that.

I graduated in '02! Adidas might have even played him if wylie was in 3A?! The guy I'm referring to was from Luling (3A), and went to state in 00-01 I believe...heck, if adidas went to state, then he might have even played him! This guy beat me at district for first and won regionals that year!
Just wondering if anyone remembered.....but for real, I would love to arrange it if anyone would want to play sometime!

No, while Adidas made region his fr. and jr. years which I believe would have been 98-99 and 00-01 he didn't get any further than that.
