at the state track meet. Here are a few of the can't miss performances that everyone should try to see. Print out this list and enjoy.

1A

Hubbard Girls 4x200 relay. Ran 1:43.35 at Regional. More than 5 seconds ahead of their nearest competition.

Kayla Warren of Sundown in the 400 meters is 3 seconds ahead of her nearest competitor. 56.89

DeAnn Washington of Milano threw the discus 141-8. More than 24 feet ahead of her nearest competitor.

Tiffany Hawkins of Hubbard long jumped 19'-01/4" at regional. That is studly no matter the classification.

Thaddeus Cook of Thorndale long jumped 23'-9 1/2" That is a very good 5A jump.

Brad Tatum of Gail Borden pole vaulted 15'-4 1/2". A 16 foot vault in 1A is a possibility.

2A

Watch for Loren Hodges of Paradise. 800 meters in 2:15.20.

Colt Davis of Aubrey. 10.53 100 meters and 21.67 200 meters. If these are FAT, those are impressive. Regional 2A meet may or may not be FAT.

The San Augustine girls turned in a 1:43.66 4x200. They are more than 3 seconds ahead of their competition.

Fred Cumby of Kerens turned in a 21.61 200 meters at regional.

Trey Jordan of Troy, Nolan Eubanks of Chico and Brett McDaniel of Wall all turned in throws in the discus of over 170 feet. It is conceivable that they could go 1,2,3 in 5A. Jordan is also one of only two 60 foot shot putters in the state. The other being a 5A guy.

Anthony Flemons of Childress with his 24'-0 1/2" long jump and 51'-3" triple jump (#2 all time all classifications in TEXAS) is a must see.

3A

Cuero's 4x100 has a chance to go sub-41 and thrill the crowd. Keep an eye out for everyone's all-everything Brandon James but especially for Stephon Hargrove our 210 lb. second leg. People that big shouldn't be that fast.

Darnius Moore from Tatum appears to be well ahead of all of the other hurdlers with his 14.09 at regional.

The much anticipated appearance of Skye Green in the 100 meters should prove interesting. Most people are expecting a FAT in the 10.4 range.

In the girls 4x200 6 of the 8 teams have turned in times under 1:44. That is faster than in recent years.

Cuero's boys 4x200 is 1 1/2 seconds faster than the field and barring a flubbed handoff should take it.

Stafford's girls 4x400 turned in a 3:54.6 at regional and is 5 seconds ahead of the field. Should be a runaway.

Hempstead's boys 4x400 comes in with a 3:18 to their credit. With a win in that race, they should be the competition for the Gobblers in the team title.

Janell Appehans of Perryton is the top long jumper in the state in all classifications turning in the only 20 foot jump at regionals where she jumped 20'-3 1/2".

The marquis 3a event will be the boys long jump with Terrance Tolliver of Hempstead and Danario Alexander of Marlin. Tolliver turned in a 24'-6 3/4", tops among all classifications in Texas. Alexander will make sure Tolliver is on his game, having jumped 24'-0 1/4".

4A

Texas City boys should go sub-41 and put on a show.

IN the girls 800 meters there are three girls who have gone sub 2:15.

Tenaya Jones of always powerful Lancaster turned in a 13.65 100 meter hurdles to top all classifications.

Lancasters 4x200 girls team should walk away with it having run 1:38.51 at regional. Their 4x400 is more than 3 seconds ahead of the field at 3:49.67

The top sprinter in the state is Fort Worth Dunbar's Victoria Jordan who has run 23.91 200 meters and 11.53 100 meters. Nanceen Perry's 22.9 200 may be within reach.

Julius Walker of Texas City is one of a handful of 7 foot high jumpers this year.

Brittany Parker of McKinney has pole vaulted 13'-4" indoors this year and had a 14 foot vault that was measured incorrectly so nobody knows how high it really was. Keep an eye on her.

Victor Weirich of Fredricksburg comes in having vaulted 16'-3" at regionals but has the best vault in the state at 16'-8".

5A

Colby Lowe of Southlake Carrol is just a sophomore yet he is the top distance runner in the state. His 9:19 3200 meters and 4:16 mile should put him on the podium in both events.

Houston Eisenhower's boys 4x100 has a realistic chance at Fort Worth Wyatt's national record of 39.76. They have been knocking on 40 flat all year. Witness history.

April Williams of Dallas Skyline is the top hurdler in the state having turned in a 13.78 100 meter hurdles and 42.84 300 meter hurdles. Look for both of those times to be lower with competition

Oscar Spurlock of Dallas Carter is one of the few sub 14 second 110 meter hurdlers this year having gone 13.94 at regional

Porscha Lucas of Plano is another double sprinter to keep an eye out for. 11.62 100M and 23.53 200M.

LaGerald Betters of Waco High has been the top 400 meter guy in the state all year turning in a 46 point something indoor 400 but never duplicating it outdoors. This is his chance. He went low 47 at regional. Myers stadium is a great 400 meter track.

Clint Renfro of Southlake Carroll (Ex-Cowboy Mel Renfro's son) has gone sub 37 in the 300 hurdles this year. He should be something to watch.

Nicole Jones of Spring Westfield is the only girl in all classes to go sub 5 minutes in the mile at regional. She went 4:49 ! Look for a runaway.

Adron Tennell of Irving also long jumped 24'-6 3/4 at regional to tie Tollivers long jump mark in 3A. Looks like a 25 foot long jump at some level is a possibility.

Those are my "watch its" for the meet. Should be an interesting one. This meet has got to be the single greatest high school state meet in the nation.

This is the biggest athletic event going on right now besides golf. There has to be at least one comment.

He is the top qualifier in 3A at 167'-2". Dominique Whitehead from West Oso should be his top competition. Whitehead is not a very big kid. Just good form. Whitehead has gone over 170 a couple of times.

Do you know Ike's times for the year? There is a BIG difference in "knocking on 40 flat all year" and running a sub 39.76!

Mike...... Mel......Pool......Pond...... Pond would be good for you.....

(random Caddyshack reference)

Eisenhowers best time of the year is 40.13. FW Wyatt had not broken 40 seconds before they ripped off their 39.76. I'm just saying history can happen at any time. It is best to be ready or you just might miss it.

Watch the 400 in 3A as well.

Lorenzo McBath of Gainesville has the fastest time coming into the meet with a 48.30. Lawhorn of Giddings is running at 48.38 and Byrd of Comanche is running a 48.82

Also, in 5A girls 800m Relay, Alief Elsik and Alief Taylor had the SAME TIME coming into state. Both relays were clocked at 1:37.38. BOTH OF THEM.

Actually Alief Taylor had that time. Elsik was slower. That is a misprint on the UIL website. Look on texastrack.com for the regional results.

Doesn't surprise me.

I'm looking forward to the Lancaster girls taking home yet another State Championship. They just breed athletes in that town.
