I realize Shipley is awesome and he'll probably win the AAA Player of the year award but NOBODY did more for their team than Spears.

Over 1,700 yds rushing
25 rushing td's
Over 400 yds receiving
4 receiving td's
Most dangerous punt returner anywhere

oh yeah

12 INT'S.

Congrats Mike on an outstanding career!

He is from Rice Consolidated.

I honestly believe that Forney RB Baylen Laury deserves some attention:

2229 rushing yards, 36 TDs
96 receiving yards, 3 TDs
246 total points scored

and that's just on offense...I can't find his defensive stats, but he was our top cornerback, had several interceptions, and a couple defensive TDs as well. He was also a part-time return man for special teams.

oh yeah...and he only played in the second half of three games all year!

Those numbers are nice, real nice. But lets not forget that Spears put his numbers up with an offense that had five solid wepons that could be feature players in any of the D2 schools left. The MVP makes things happen, when his is not in, his team gets hurt big time. He didn't play the second half in the PI game, a huge hit to Rice. Also dont forget his ten INT or so, maybe eleven.

i have seen spears play 5 times the past 2 yrs. and he is a great player both sides of the ball. whats amazing is that rice's 2 loses in playoff the past 2 seasons he was hurt during the game. you talk about a most valuable player.

Is he ok, I know he suffered an injury in the PI game? Hope it's not serious and can continue with his atheletic career somewhere.

it has to go to Shipley or Mcgee from Burnet. Probably should go to Shipley. This young man broke every receiving record in the state of Texas. plus is a top notch defensive back. also does kicking duties for 14-0 team. 1st team wide receiver and db all-state last yr as a junior. Signed letter of intent for UT. enough said.

Seen Spears play against Wharton. He is not on the same level as Shipley from Burnet. As matter of fact McGee gets the vote before Spears. 46tds and only 3 interceptions. that is unbeleivable. Also McGee can scramble for yardage. I went to the Burnet-Jasper game at Kyle field and McGee was the difference. He played a great game and just waited for Jasper to make a mistake. No knock on Spears. He should be playing college ball somewhere next yr.

Spears didnt even win MVP for District 28-3A. Terrel Lee from Palacios won the MVP.
