I heard this discussion on Mike & Mike this morning and thought I would bring it over here. You have 4 people that you can put on the face of Mt Sportsmore...two of which are already chosen (read below). Who would you take for your other two? Here are the stipulations:

1. They must be people that their accomplishments and popularity transcend the sports world. By this I mean somebody who, 100 years from now will still be well-known and regarded as one of the greatest to ever play his/her sport.

2. Muhammad Ali and Babe Ruth already claim two of the spots on the mountain.

3. Jackie Robinson's accomplishments far surpass this mountain so he is somewhere up above looking down over the mountain but cannot be placed on it.

4. Obviously, we are talking about professional athletes so Vince Young is not yet eligible...sorry Phil! :p

Great choices. They have both done so much for their respective sport.

Jim Thorpe

Babe Zacherous (sp)

These two had an impact on multiple sports. Track and field, football, golf, and everything they did.

Backup picks - Mickey Mantle and Dick Butkus

Third pick - Arnold Palmer and Lance Armstrong

I like the Tiger Woods pick but something tells me we won't still be talking about MJ in 100 years. Gut feeling here folks. Think about the wide time frame it took to get the first 2 members of Mt Sportsmore. Babe was1920's and 1930's, Ali was 1960's and 1970's. Tiger is late 1990's and 2000's, so I think we need another 20 to 30 years before we find our next transcendent sports figure. Therefore, I say start with 3 sports figures on Mt. Sportsmore and leave an open space for a yet to be determined sports superhero. Or we could just put The Great Rickadamus on there in his PHANTOM t-shirt!

I'd say Pete Sampras and Harry Kerry.

Kevin Mench and Walter Payton

Kevin Mench is a stupid choice. There isn't enough rock for his head.

BTW: Did you see (and hear) the guy in Tampa Bay giving him heck the other day. That guy has too much time on his hands. It was pretty funny though.

Just remember CTXS, if you can see Chuck Norris, Chuck Norris can see you. If you can't see Chuck Norris, you're probably about to die.

When you look at who impacted their sport and made it bigger and better you have to go with:

MJ and Wayne "the Great One" Gretsky

Rick Vaughn, Rocky, or Steamin Wille Beamen:D
