UT batter hit by pitch so he gets to go to first base and a runner advances to score giving UT the lead 2 - 1 and with bases still loaded with one out. Hang onto your hats everyone!

UT gets another run before the Aggies get a double play and get out of the inning. Score now is UT 3 A&M 1 with the top of the 7th inning coming up. UT is the home team.

I am not sure if the game on tv is the one today or one of the other ones. Way to go Horns! Now we have a cushion in case the Aggies get a grand slam in the 9th.

I don't think it will be Texas State, but this game and next weeks game against Baylor will prepare the Bobcats to finish out the SLC against UTA and UTSA. Article from Texas State website:

Cats, 'Horns to Meet for Final Time in 2006

Texas State gets final '06 shot at Longhorns

Senior slugger Cody Merrell leads Texas State into Austin Tuesday to take on the seventh-ranked Longhorns at 6:15 p.m.

May 1, 2006

AUSTIN - Texas State will attempt to carry momentum into Disch-Falk Field Tuesday, as the Bobcats take on No. 7 Texas at 6:15 p.m.

Texas State (24-24) took 2-of-3 from Lamar over the weekend for the first time since the 2000 season, while Texas (32-15) edged Texas A&M Monday to earn a series sweep over the Aggies for the first time since the 2002 season.

Tuesday's meeting will be the second this season between the Bobcats and Longhorns, who beat Texas State 7-4 on Feb. 22 in Austin.

PITCHING MATCH-UP

Texas State will send senior right-hander Ryan Bennett to the mound with a 1-3 mark and a 6.38 ERA to face sophomore righty Kenn Kasparek for the Longhorns.

Bennett has fanned 25 on the year while tossing 24.0 innings in eight appearances, five starts.

Kasparek, who pitched in relief in the early season match-up against the Bobcats, comes in with a 4.89 ERA and a record of 3-2. He has 46.0 innings to his record on the year, while compiling 27 strike outs in 20 appearances, six starts.

OFFENSIVE NUMBERS

Luke Cannon has been Texas State's top offensive threat in 2006, belting out 13 home runs and driving in 49 RBIs on the year to go with an SLC leading .725 slugging percentage. Cannon also holds the team lead in runs scored at 37.

Flanking Cannon on the offensive chart is Cody Merrell, who hits .311 with 36 RBIs and six homers, while David Wood (34 RBIs) and Aaron Garza (.274 average) have also hit six homers on the year. Merrell has also been hit by a league-leading 20 pitches this season.

Thomas Field checks in second in runs scored with 36, and he has been the team's top threat on the bases, stealing 14 in 20 attempts. Not far behind on the base path is outfielder Kyle Jones, who has swiped 12-of-17 bags on the year.

The Longhorn offense is powered by a five-man list of players hitting at or above .300, led by Carson Kainer's .360 average and 49 RBIs. Trailing Kainer is Drew Stubbs, hitting .339 with 42 RBIs and a team-best 11 homers. Stubbs has also stolen 19 bases thus far.

Jordan Danks (.327), Kyle Russell (.305) and Bradley Suttle (.300) round out the .300 club for Texas, while Nick Peoples sits just outside at .286 with ten stolen bases.

As a team, Texas hits .293, while the Bobcats check in at .270 on the year.

THE SERIES

Texas owns a 22-9 advantage in the all-time series, with a 21-9 mark in game played at Disch-Falk Field. Texas beat Texas State 7-4 in February this season, and the Bobcats' last win came in the second of two last year in Austin, a 2-1 win over then No. 1 Texas.

Under current head coach Ty Harrington, a former Longhorn, the Bobcats are 6-7 in seven seasons.

ON THE AIR

Tuesday's game in Austin will be broadcast on 89.9-FM, KTSW, with Cameron Kushwara and Brant Freeman calling the action from Disch-Falk Field.

In addition to this week's game being carried, KTSW will carry the entire remaining slate of Bobcat baseball games, including all of Texas State's games in the Southland Conference Tournament, May 24-27 in Beaumont.

The games will also air live on the Internet at www.txstatebobcats.com through Bobcats All Access, and live statistics will be available for the remainder of the season. Tuesday's stats can be followed through the Texas live stats system at www.texassports.com, while all of Texas State's remaining games will be carried on CSTV's Game Tracker at www.txstatebobcats.com.
