Why in the world didn't the Texans trade the #1 pick? If they knew that they weren't going to draft one of the big 3 why didn't they trade down a few spots and get whatever else they could in the process? Considering Charlie Casserley was highly regarded when he signed on with Houston several years ago he sure has failed to get anything close to a winner on the field yet.

The contract was already signed(not sure if that is right).

that is right Tiger, it was signed but they didn't have to offer him a contract when they decided on him. They could have held off and traded down. They would of course take a risk that someone else would have drafted him but that wasn't a huge concern. They should have offered the pick to the first 4 teams picking behind them and taken the best offer. Now they swap places and pick up at least one maybe two more picks to fill in some of the many gaps on this team.

Casserely said they wanted to have their guy signed before the big day if I recall that correctly.

it was thought that the Saints were going to take Williams w/ the 2nd pick, so basically all we could have done is trade w/ New Orleans and i dont really think we could have gotten that much being that they would now we really didnt want Bush if we were trading w/ them in the first place...

Because nobody wanted to give up what the first overall pick was worth.

Example: for the Jets to move up from fourth to first they would've had to give up their first rounder (fourth overall), second rounder (36th overall), third rounder (68th), fourth rounder (100th), and fifth (132nd) ALONG WITH next year's second- and fourth-round picks.... or they could've given up their first, second, and fourth this year along with their first and second next year. Nobody wanted to pay that kind of a price, especially when it leaves them vulnerable to have high picks all over again next year, so nobody was ready to deal with the Texans. New Orleans at number two was a different story, but they weren't ready to give up Bush.

The Titans figured they could get a franchise QB if they sat on their pick, and there's no way a team like the 49ers at number six could afford to pay for Bush. To me, that's very telling as to how much most NFL execs really thought of Bush.

Bottom line: NFL-types didn't really think he could change a franchise by himself, even if the rest of the world did.
