Inks Lake is great place but McKinney Falls park in Austin off highway 183 is also a great place with better lodging than Inks Lake

If you zoom in its the real small one under buchanan, we would actually be meeting in the State Park where the green is on the right side.

Anyone ever thought of Krause Springs (http://www.texasoutside.com/kraussprings.htm) or the Frio? Inks Lake is great, but I personally like both of those places better.

Think about those of us who live in south texas....near houston....where driving to inks lake takes 4-5 hours....in a day were gas is 3 dollars an hour....in a ford ranger...by myself.....

You coming from Huntsville or Navasota? It takes me about 3 hours from CS.

But Krause Springs would be closer.

Emerson1
04-23-2006, 01:55 PM
It's gonna be a 4 hour for someone no matter where it is.
It's already 5.5 hours for RangerMom from Greenwood to Inks, it would be 6 hours if its in Austin

I drive a Ford Ranger to, you can get there and back on a 1 tank.

Sorry but no it wouldn't. You could get to Inks Lake just as fast and a lot less headaches. 21 to 36 to 79 to 95 to 29

I'd be coming from Huntsvegas.

And it takes me an hour to get from Huntsville to CS, give or take a few stop signs.

So I was a bout right. 4-5 hours. in that time period. Plus like I said I drive a ford ranger, so speeding isn't an option even I wanted it to be.

here is a great idea for all of those complaining about the price of gas to get to the M&G, car pool, see if you can persuade other downlowers from your city to car pool and split the price of gas

I'm not complaining about gas prices but now that you mention it they are rediculous!

What do all you South Texas folks think about doing one at Choke Canyon or Lake Corpus Christi?

NHSRattler60
04-23-2006, 07:55 PM
that means I'd have to travel the same distance west. Man...I'm poorly placed.

sinton66
04-23-2006, 07:59 PM
East Texas folks could do one at Lake Conroe. West Texas folks could do one at Twin Buttes (San Angelo) or the Lake at Ballinger.

I think you should keep it in central texas its the most fair thing to do...a regional meet and greet wouldn't be the same.....me personally if I got to go I'd love to meet people from sinton, west texas, etc..............keep it in the centex...

I have been thinkign about Inks all spring. My family used to go when we were kids. My old man gave me my first taste of adult beverage at Inks when i was about 7 or 8. Wasnt a poignant Clark and Rusty Griswold moment but hey we were simple.

I like the idea of Inks, but the place outside Spicewood that BDR mentioned sounds nice too. I'm pretty easy, though, and would do my best to make it wherever. (Okay, except Dalhart. ;) )

Yes there is. That's another option. I guess it's really just whatever everyone thinks would be the best, but the Austin area would be most convenient for everyone out there. Another option might be Pedernales Falls. It's a really nice place.

CS to Burnet 2 1/2 hours. I used to drive it all the time, my son still does.:)

I still travel to Jasper occasionally, and it takes me about 4 hours and 45 minutes doing about 75. It takes me about 3 hours from Burnet to Huntsville. So even at 70 mph you can go from Huntsville to Inks lake in 3 and a half hours.

its about 4 hours from Sinton. Been to Inks lake twice, very nice place to hike.

Perhaps we need to redo the poll between two choices, Inks and Bastrop. However, you really shouldn't vote if you can't commit to going.
