I am wondering if Silent Hill will be worth seeing. All the prerelease buzz makes it look like one of the best new Horror movies recently. Usually movies based on video games kinda go with me like flat coke but this one looks pretty exciting. Are you planning on seeing it? If you do, tell me what you thought about it.:)

I read one review that pretty much panned the movie, but you never know. I'm waiting for An American Haunting. That one looks so much better.

I haven't seen it either but it is probably worth checking out. Remember there is no such thing as a bad movie ever made. It is just some are better than others.

Horror movies recently just haven't been all that great. The last one I saw that I thought was pretty sweet was Event Horizon. The Ring and others haven't been very good imo.:(

I thought maybe it was because I was "older" and "tougher" that they didn't scare me much anymore.

The Grudge kinda freaked me out though...not so much scarey, just startled me a lot.

I am ready for a good scary movie that will scare the crap out of me like The Exorcist did.

Don't forget that Van Helsing was pretty good.

Van Helsing was a waste.

Event Horizon was quite original and graphic.

Normally I agree with your movie assessments, Phil, but in this case I have to disagree. Motel Hell - I saw it many years ago, on $1 night. I have to say it was the biggest waste of $1 that I remember.

I heard Hostel was a pretty gory movie. i hate gratuitous gore, so i dont like to watch horror movies. but the blood in mob flicks is by no means, gratuitous. i just bought goodfellas, now i need to go get Casino, and gangs of new york ;). you can keep your horror movies

I dont Know about Silent Hill. It looks like it could go either way. I am looking forward to The Omen. It looks pretty creepy, and it comes out on 6/6/06.

If it is as scary as the game was, this movie will be worth seeing.

What's interesting about this movie is they brought some unknowns in and tried to make the movie better than the game. I know that's the intent of all movies based on games, but this one intrigues me to no end.

DO NOT SEE SILENT HILL! that was a horrible movie, horrible! It was long, boring and made no sense at all! People including myself were laughing at the movie. It was just a big joke. Try and follow the story line. There is no plot, its just like adding onto something that was never there. Hey i cant find my daughter, so lets try to find hell instead. Than lets go pray in church and fight demans. It made no sense. OMG horrible movie. Ok i said my piece. Night

Good point. Were they driving Lemans or Demans in the movie?;)
BTW, just in following the pre-release hype I could see that the mother followed a path into another demension looking for her daughter, and later her husband had a similiar path in this world in a simliliar time.
Are you telling me they totally missed everything pertinent toward the story?

hutex04

yes, There is no story thats the point. They make it out to be one thing, but never solve the plot. Instead they add more things and you are left not knowing what to follow and recieving no answers at all. It made no sense. Me and my dad were laughing and people around us were too. Cause you were heading in this direction, than they find something new and go in that direction and than they try to make it all fit and all thats left is one big blahhhhhh

I was reading reviews this morning off IMDB, this one caught my eye

"this is how horror movies should be made. It seems like ones who didn't like this are ones who like simple color by numbers type movies that a 10 yr old can understand. These same people would also play the silent hill games and be totally lost. They only want to see zombies or crap pop out at them for a quick scare."

watch the movie than. It has nothing to do with being complex. I'am a movie buff and even Roger Ebert said it made no sense. So yes, consider me simple minded 10 year old than, along with Roger Ebert and many many others! It had NO PLOT! it was just adding another twist to another. Has anyone seen this movie yet that can agree with me?

I had a nice conversation with seven or eight people coming down on the escalator after we all saw "Silent Hill." They wanted me to explain it to them. I said I didn't have a clue. They said, "You're supposed to be a movie critic, aren't you?" I said, "Supposed to be. But we work mostly with movies." "Yeah," said the girl in the Harley t-shirt. "I guess this was like a video game that you like had to play in order to like understand the movie." Roger Ebert
